Found this book of memories a very interesting one - after being a friend of his music since the swinging sixties!
He denies carecoryctly wanting to be any icon of the protest movement of the time or a speaker for his generation.
He writes he is simply a "poet singer"...

Krysostomos,

Welcome! I haven't read the book. One of your words did not come through. With carecoryctly did you intend to mean characteristically? That's an adverb that means "in a manner pertaining to, constituting, or indicating the character or peculiar quality of a person or thing; typical; distinctive." Example: He characteristically denied it.

Or did you maybe mean categorically? That's an adjective that means "without exceptions or conditions; absolute; unqualified and unconditional." Example: He gave a categorical denial.

Welcome to the boards!

Despite his being a big lefty, I always liked Dylan as a songwriter, but quite honestly thought that his material always sounded better when performed by other artists, i,e "Highway 61 Revisited" by Johnny Winter, "If Not For You" by George Harrison, "Like A Rolling Stone" and "All Along The Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix,"Knockin On Heaven's Door" by Guns N Roses, "Quinn The Eskimo" by Manfred Mann and so on.

The same can be said of Bruce Springsteen. Manfred Mann performed his "Blinded by the Light." It is much better than Bruce's version.

Manfred Mann also did "For You" and "Spirit In The Night" better than Springsteen, although I like his versions as well.

But Bruce Springsteen's rendition of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is the best by far.

I actually heard this song on the radio last night. It seems that Christmas time starts after Hallowe'en. JC Penny was also playing Chirstmas songs on Thursday.

Well, if Bob Dylan is left wing, the Europian- or at least Scandinavian - conservatives must be more or less communist wing!
