Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory Forever!

Monday, November 21, 2005

Dear Reverend Hierarchs, Fathers, Deacons, Cantors and Friends,

The 2006 Typikon by Father David Petras will be available online approximately December 1, 2005. Please visit www.davidpetras.com [davidpetras.com] to register and download your copy.

Please pass the word on to all those you know who might want a copy of the 2006 Typikon via internet.

The 2006 Typikon will also be available for those who do not have internet access via regular postal mail.

Thank you.

Seminarian C.J. Tran

Maybe it isn't working yet? Administrator said it would be there until December.

In short, the 'book' which contains the rules and rubrics governing every aspect of church services and their celebration thoughout the year.

I'm note sure if any of the 'Ruthenian' Churches have ever published a full typicon (the works of Dolnytsky, etc. are abbreviations). For an example of a 'full' Typicon, my copy of the Nikonian Typicon is 1,169 pages and weighs in at just under 2 kg.

There is a project underway to translate the Nikonian Typicon into English. A Table of Contents [synaxis.info] can be found in the Typicon [synaxis.info] section of Synaxis.info.

The typikon Fr. Petras produces is the one in common use within the Ruthenian metropolia (Byzantine Catholic Church).

This website has come along a bit. You can now go and order the typikon - it throws you a link to where you can buy it online for $12 and download it - or just contact Eastern Christian Pubs and get it from them.

It ain't a free download.

I'll buy it.

I purchased the online version of the Typicon and it initially worked like a charm. Now, as we approach the time that I need it, I find that I can suddenly no longer access it. The website says my username or password is incorrect. I kind of doubt that, because I let my browser remember the password for me, but, just to be sure, I re-typed the password and got the same error. In desperation I clicked on the "Forgot my password" link and the website gave me a "server error". Is anyone else having this difficulty, or am I special?

I have also had a difficult time working with Fr. Petras' website. I paid for the online Typicon a few weeks ago but it did not give instructions on how to get a username and password. I don't know how to access the Typicon now. Has anyone had better luck than I.

As I recall, immediately after purchasing the Typicon through PayPal, I was prompted for a username/password. If you were not, but you have confirmation of payment, I would contact the webmaster and ask for assistance using the "Contact Us" button at the upper right of the main page.
