AMDG Dear J Thur, AUTHORITY--indeed. Is Rome to the Universal Church as Ohio is to the US? Of course, Orthodox will answer that differently than Catholics, and it leads us to the heart of the problem. LT

Does that make us problematic? Joe

NO, Joe, No--you are not problematic. I apologize. It is not problematic that the Greek-Catholics do not say the filioque; it would be problematic were we Catholics to deem the filioque "heretical" as do the Orthodox, since we accept Rome as Mater et Magistra. I guess I just didn't understand where you were coming from with the thing about authority--for us, of course, Rome's authority over the Church exceeds that of Ohio over the US. No offense intended--I apologize. Like I said--I do the creed w/o the filioque whenever I go to my local Melkites. En Xpi, LT

LT, The Filioque is not heretical. The innovation was its insertion into the Creed professed at the Divine Liturgy or Mass. The heresy-hunting and polemics came later. Joe

AMDG Dear Joe in Christ, Word. I guess what I was after, when I started making provocative statements , was to initiate a discussion on the rationale behind the Filioque. Ek to Patro, Amn. LatinT

The current Pontiff as well as Paul VI have both recited the Credo in public at pontifical liturgies without the Filioque. Causa finita est.

IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE FILIOQUE THEN START A THREAD!
I am very concerned with this "secret" meeting and would like input from the forum.
Please do not hijack this thread!
Peace and Love in Jesus Christ!

LT, I guess the rationale can be found in the relentless pursuit of the Carolingian theologians who couldn't take a Pope's "No!" for an answer. When in doubt, blame it on the Carolingians. Rome got the Creed written on two plaques because of it, one in Latin and the other in Greek. Way to got, Papa! Joe

Peace and Love in Jesus Christ! You will have to pay 1,000 pierogies and two kegs of beer to get it back. Then we can discuss secret meetings. You can pay the ransom at the nearest black helicopter. All black helicopter pilots are my friends. They work for me. Make them pierogies a mix of potato, sweet cabbage, prune, and cottage cheese. I promise not to give any of the prune ones to the pilots. I say let them have their meetings and give no more thought to it.
All we are going to get is idle speculation which will do no one any good.
I'd be more concerned about people assuming that the Boston Globe is capable of unbiased reporting.
