Dear Daniel:

You forgot to list the 2 largest Protestant denominations in the U.S.: the Southern Baptist Convention (#1) and the Methodists (#2).

The Southern Baptists in the United States are equally as large as all Catholics in the US, around 25-26 million.

Dear Dr. Eric:

I think Catholics (East and West) in the U.S. are way much larger than the SBC by almost 3 times.

Actually the statistics for the USA Byzantine (Pittsburgh) Catholic Church are very disheartening. I did not realize how fast they are shrinking!!!!!

Thanks for the statistics listed a couple of posts above. Although I don't want to think in terms of numbers...which can always decrease or increase...this is, nonetheless, informative and helpful to get a clearer over all picture of the numbers involved.

I wonder if there are any stats out on how many of the above in the various denominations are actually regularly attending their churches.

Gordo - we've discussed this for years. The original reasons which ethnically divided the Ruthenian and Ukrainian churches simply do not exist anymore. Multiple seminaries and other physical plants eating up precious and dwindling resources.

A united Slavic patriarchate (Kiev) and a united Greek-rite patriarchate (Antioch) seem a good way to go. How can we presume to unite mankind when we can not even unite amongst ourselves?

Wow! My information that I had gotten was wrong, I thought that the Catholics and Baptists had roughly the same numbers. No one can be right all the time, that's why doctors have malpractice insurance eek I hope to God to never need it. I hope that I'm only wrong on this forum! wink

I also agree that united Patriarchates would help to eliminate confusion.

How many Bishops are in the Cleveland area? I count at least 5! eek

Glory to Jesus Christ!

It is wonderful to see these posts! This is the type of visionary, creative thinking and dreaming that we have to give ourselves permission to engage in. It is good to see this type of looking at the big picture and envisioning reorganizion, restructuring and redistribution so as to become not something different or foreign to who we are but to become more authentically and powerfully who we are as Eastern Catholic Churches.
