This thought has been at the back of my mind for the last few days.

Does anyone know the damage that was done to the New Orleans Mission?

Let me lay this out. Think about 100 Byzantine Men descending onto the Parish and rebuilding it. Why should we pay money to a contractor, when I know we have the man power and the resources to do it ourselves.

Lets take a page from the Amish and lets go down to New Orleans and raise a Church.

That is Revitalization and Evangelization in action.

So what would we have to do in order to do this?

As of the last memo from the Chancery noone has been able to make it to the Church to survey the damage. They know it sustained water damage they are unsure of how much.

Well... if it means anything, if rebuilding's needed, I'll put myself up for building.

John,

I am sure when the needs are known, that some sort of communication will be made for help. Then I would put up a request then with a date and plan in mind. I am sure that as many as can will help their fellow Christian in re-establishing a proper place of worship.

I hope and pray that this idea and appeal come to fruition.

Dear John,

Glory to Jesus Christ!

I saw some photos of water damage. Water covered the tops of the pews and about half of the iconostas.
Not sure to what extent they were able to save vestments or other holy items.
I have not heard about restoration plans. It would be well worth the effort, even if some of the faithful relocated their lives elsewhere. The mission has been there for very many years.

Keep them in your prayers.

Too bad about the iconostas. But I understand that pews make good firewood, when they dry out.

Nathan,

It is not that it may not be fun, but I can see a number of churches going up in flames. The reason for that is our people will forget one important thing. Remove the pews from the church first, before applying a match  .

Now, let's get back to business. wink

Yes, the proper method for pew removal and disposal;
1) Remove the pews from the Church
2) Once off-site with pews and a safe burning
area is secured stack up pews in a pile.
3) Go find nice wooden chairs to seat those that
need to sit can use, or those who won't sit
on the floor for the homily.

My dad is one of those guys. He has done work for years. The Southern Baptist Convention has these huge trailers they take to disaster sites for cooking. Locally he is the 'bacon boss' - that is the name they gave him and his job. Recently, they had the trailer here at the BJCCC cooking for the displaced familys. They were cooking over 1000 meals aday from the trailer.

Now dad is 80 years old, a WWII vet that has bumbed knees and has to wear braces on them to boot to stand up easier. He was at the trailer everymorning at 6AM cooking breakfast. When he was younger, in his 60s, he would go with the van and help with whatever was needed. He loves it.
