The Forum upgrades were successful.

Please report any issues that you have using the forum software.

The current layout is one of the defaults for the program. It will change as we update the layout and load new graphics.

John,

Congratulations on what looks to have been one of the most painless upgrades in net history.

I notice signatures are now enabled - a wonderful thing - mine has lain dormant, waiting to display itself for 3+ years smile

Interesting, I tried to add Archbishop Tawil's name to my sig - as the quote is attributable to him. The system declined to buy into that, citing a 100 character limit and reporting that I would be using 233. However, I was obviously over the cap just w/ quote, but it is displaying anyway. Of course, I had to cold exit to keep it from making me cut it down to size. So, in order to do any profile upgrade, I will have to decide how to cut it back.

Regardless of that minor gripe, it looks good - going to take a bit of getting used to, but we will adapt (cause we do that sooo well biggrin )

Many years,

Neil

Wow - so far I like it - you poor folk have worked so hard getting this up again as fast as this - thank you sooooooooo much, smile

It's going to take some getting used to - can we really change the font in our replies ?

I like the Calendar showing - that's great when you forget what day it is biggrin

I see that avatars which are not perfect squares are squashed / stretched. cry

Also, how do I edit the text above my avatar (I spotted a typo, and it also appears truncated). I looked under profile and preferences but could not find that option... confused

I admit a preference for the old program. However, since that cannot be anymore, I really, really wish that this new program could be darkened and sharpened a bit. I find it very unappealing to the eye in its paleness...

Alice,

We are working on it. It is going take a while before everything is in its "final" form. The weeks to come are going to fun and exciting.

John, Fr. Anthony, et al.,

So far, so good; congratulations on the upgrade !

Constructive criticisms: I miss the shade of blue from the old version. I hope that can be restored. Also, I agree with Alice; I miss the crispness of the lines, colors and design of the old version. Also, how can we un-squish our avatars ? Minor points, of course, but things to consider as the upgrade progresses.

Again, congratulations and be well.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

The current color scheme is simply the default. The colors will change as we have the time. I just made a few changes in font type (to match the old version) and the color scheme (to make things look crisper). Watch for more changes in the coming weeks.

We are trying to keep the number of forums down to a minimum. John (Harmon3110) is correct that the lower the number of individual forums the greater the level of participation.

Signatures will be disabled at some point. This version does not all the ability to turn them off completely. I did set the number of characters to 0 so that users cannot make changes to their signatures. I know that many people like them but to me they detract from the conversations.

There are now two kind of replies:

Quick Reply appears at the bottom of each page and only gives you the basic options for replying.

Reply (if you hit the Reply icon in any post or the New Reply icon at the top of each page) gives you a number of options for formatting your text.

The Avatars might need to be edited. The new software automatically sizes the avatars. I will not get to working on that for a few days.

Foreign languages fonts (like Cyrillic) do work on the initial posts. Sometimes, however, when you quote them in a replay they turn to question marks. That is not a problem with the forum software but an issue with the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, etc.).

Speaking of colors, the original dark blue and fiery red were crisp and provided clear contrast.

Somehow it's hard to dissociate oneself from those "true" colors! wink

I also think that there needs to be more contrast, but as John said, it'll be fixed.

I do love that there are more siley faces smile

There's even one that shows how I feel about fish and seafood! sick

I do wish our Icons would be resized, cause my Pantokrator is squished! frown

I like the signatures as long as they're not too long.

All in all, I say good job! grin
