Not only that, he wants everyone between 18 and 42! http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/19/rangel.draft.ap/index.htmlDr. Eric (Who is moving to Ukraine if Hilary gets elected! Did anyone see The Amazing Race tonight? Kyiv is gorgeous!)

Since the Congressman's constitutents would lynch him if he attempted to bring back the draft, I assume this is intended as political humor - or perhaps as a warning that it is impossible to go on marching around the world on military adventures without conscription. The Congressman may have remembered that one of the important factors in the movement against the Vietnam War was conscription. Thank God for Canada that time around.
Kyiv is indeed a city worth seeing at leisture, but I have no intention of moving there!

I have often thought that there should be some 2 year mandatory National Guard service after High School, so long as the US would ONLY commit to using the National Guard for US domestic security and NOT as regular army fighting battles overseas. (Unlikely, of course...) I almost joined the National Guard after working with them and the Red Cross to help flooding victims where a raging river torrent from the top of the hill had destroyed a small town in the Ohio Valley. I was very impressed by their humanitarian work. I had signed up to take the test when the 1st Gulf War broke out, and decided to wait since my bride was expecting our 1st by that point.
God bless!

Certainly, if we had the draft now, there would be tens of thousands of people out on the streets of every city demanding that pull out of this adventure in Iraq. That would not be a bad byproduct.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
In my opinion, the Congressman only wants the THREAT of the draft to be on the minds of soldier-age parents. That would reinforce his own opposition to the Iraq war and increase calls to pull out now.
Whether you agree or not with the war is not the point. The point is that the emotional nature of the draft issue is based purely on politics.
Unfortunately the divisive nature of the current political landscape does not end with the election- it just goes on and on.
Our prayers should be for a just end to conflict in the world by heeding the Word of God in all our lives. The political gain of one group should not matter.

Having lost the last vote in the House of Representatives on this issue by a margin of 402-2, Rangel's suggestion can hardly be taken seriously.
One army officer who had commanded forces in both Vietnam and later in Iraq noted that he had more soldier-discipline problems with a thousand draftees than he had with 300,000 volunteers.
