What Sacraments can someone in the Latin rite take in the EC? Can we go to confession with an EC priest? I am assuming that children would have to be baptized in our own rite.

Actually, all the sacraments/mysteries can be taken at any Catholic Church. Even a Latin child, baptized in a Byzantine church, remains a Latin.

And, just to clarify, we now use the term "Church" or "church sui iuris in reference to the different Churches that make up the Catholic Church. The term "rite" is simply not meaningful in this case.

Thank you for clarifying terminology for me. Oy! All the things I need to learn. confused

So if we start attending Saint George's on a regular basis, we could in fact have our daughter (due in March) baptized there? That's great. Perhaps it would be a good idea for us to write down all our questions and speak with the priest.

Thank you!

Andrea

Andrea,

The priest may baptize your child but fully initiating your child (communion and chrismation) is a little different and will depend on your priest. Definitely talk to him about that.

Since you just started attending, I would wait to bring up this point. The baby isn't going anywhere for many months. Let the priest see you becoming a part of the parish community and become familiar with the church and the liturgy. He'll probably be more open to discussion of the finer points of the sacraments of initiation after several months of your regular attendance than he will right now. Definitely take advantage of the other sacraments such as communion and confession and (if needed) holy unction in the mean time.
