The priest described as "anti life" in a Catholic Insight story [catholicinsight.com] was elected in this past Monday's by-election with a large majority.

Regardless of anti-life or whatever my understanding was that current canon law prohibited priests from holding political office; at least that seems to be the interpretation taken in Australia; it is a question that has been raised in relation to the percieved political capabilities of a Jesuit here on at least one occasion, but the conclusion the partisan nature of politics was incompatible with the priestly state.

Was he the one who said he would abstain from any vote that he disagrees with the church on?
