Boy was it nice hearing a SLAVONIC liturgy again! (Although I could have done without the sanctus bells!). Thanks for posting that Ray S. It made my day! grin

That has to be one of the early Hierarchical Divine Liturgies after the c. 1965 Liturgical Commission that was in partial English. Listen how long the musical notes were sung. Most litanies to day are much faster. Yes, the Church Slavonic is a real treat!

Wonderful! What a Christmas present to those of us who remember the Slavonic Divine Liturgy fondly.

I'm taping this music for my 90 yr. old father, as this is how our parish use to sing. Imagine that, an entire congregation singing the entire liturgy along side the choir of cantors! This how I remember our church back in the late '60's and early '70's!

Anyone know who the deacons were, or the cantors?

I have several LP's of this recording, none with an original cover. It is my #1 favorite recording of the DL for some personal reasons.

Beyond the Latinisations like the sanctus bells (which were still used by some parishes into the late 90's), listen to the absolute richness of the harmonies and the truly heartfelt singing throughout the recording. A while back I made a digital copy of the LP that I cleaned up which sounds amazing. I have made copies of selections to show cantors how the singing could be in all of our parishes.

Out west, Van Nuys Eparchy, I feel we do sing too fast. Many folks that I know back East also think we talk too fast. I find the pacing to be "right", slow enough for the rich harmony to blossom and at a tempo that doesn't feel dragging. A number of priests I know would say that the singing on that recording is tooooo slow for them. They tend to want everything sung fast though.

On the web site there is a picture of a young woman wearing what appears to be a sticharion. What is she actually wearing and why?
