The subject of the rapture just came up in a talk with two friends. They said it was biblical. I know Orthodox and Catholics both agree that the Rapture is a bunch of hot wind. Any good Orthodox/Catholic books or websites that refute this teaching?

Along with Orthodox and Catholics, Protestant Theology also rejects the Rapture. For fun, give your Rapture believing friends anything Lutheran or even Weslian that is more than 100 years old and they will mistakenly think it is Roman Catholic Theology...

Thanks. I do have the above-mentioned book, but found it a difficult read and put it away. Will reapproach it--that was several years ago. There is a CAtholic book called "The Rapture Trap," by Paul Thigpen. I've thought about ordering it.

"The Rapture Trap" - I have that book. 1/2 of it is Catholic 101 then 1 Chapter is basically "stay with us here...". Finally, two Chapters are dedicated to the topic. It is a good read but skip the first part and just read the last two chapters.

I would highly recommend The Rapture Trap.

There are some good apologetic sections, funny ones at that.

The section on the Babylonian Mystery Religion is quite good.

the whole idea of the Rapture had its birth amongst the Darbyites (Plymouth Brethren)a couple of centuries ago. it seems that at a Darbyite prayer meeting in Scotland, a fifteen year old girl fell into a trance, and began to mumble some rubbish about the Church being raptured ( a misundestanding of a verse in First Thessalonians). strange how even conservative Protestantism seemed to do well without rapture theories until the forementioned episode. there is an apocryphal story about a bumper sticker (that took off on in case of Rapture........)that read in case of rupture, the driver will be unmanned.

I saw this bumper sticker once,
"If you are raptured, can I have your car?"

I thought about getting it but then I thought it might come across as anti-Christian.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book:
"What Does The Bible Say About The End Times? A Catholic View" by Fr. William Kurz, S.J. from Marquette University. The book is published by Servant Books.

I thought about writing a book one day called:

My Left Behind: How Aberrant Readings of The End of Time Make a Mockery of Christian Truth laugh crazy

I'll never forget watching some of the movies I saw as a kid concerning the end times - especially the ones where the giant locusts came and picked up people (to eat, I assume).

on a more serious note, I would recommend Scott Hahn's THE END which provides a very intriguing view of the Book of Revelation, debunking some of the myths created by eminent dispensationalist theologians such as Jack T. Chick and Samuel Kirban.

Fr. Kurz was my New Testament prof. at Marquette. He is a great scholar and a holy priest. I recommend anything by him. In Christ.

Two books I've read on the subject,

"Will Catholics Be Left Behind?"

and

"The Rapture: The End Times Error that Leaves the Bible Behind."

both by Catholic authors and both are very good. In Christ,

I keep thinking of that old Blondie pseudo-rap tune called "Rapture." If you were around whenever that piece of pop "art" came out (late 70s, early 80s), then you will now have that tune stuck in your mind for days...

Thanks, Annie. I just saw her on Youtube - at 61 - singing this song.

I think I shall have nightmares for a week!
