I was wondering what the reasons are for this practice.
I am also wondering if I might refrain from reception of the Eucharist at the house daily Mass.
Ideas on either greatly appreciated.

David--I believe that the point is not to refrain from taking the Eucharist, but from celebrating the Divine Liturgy. Hence, the reason for the Presanctified Liturgy. The Divine Liturgy is seen as the pre-eminent celebration of joy for the Church and not suited to the somber weekdays of the Great Fast. The Presanctified was developed to sustain one during the period of Lent when no Divine Liturgy could be celebrated on weekdays.

Thanks John, But then this raises another question.
Why is this done in parishes where there is no daily Divine Liturgy in the first place.

David--I believe that eparchial guidelines say that the Presanctified has to be served during the Fast. I'm sure that priests who serve multiple parishes do servce the Presanctified at least once during Lent at such a parish. John
