Ray: http://www.uncutmountainsupply.com/default.aspTHE HOLY FORTY MARTYRS OF SEBASTEA March 9th
All of them were soldiers in the Roman army and steadfastly believed in the Lord Jesus. When the persecution of Christians began during the reign of Licinius, they were brought to trial before the commander. When he threatened to strip them of their honor as soldiers, one of them, St. Candidus, responded, "Not only the honor of being a soldier, but take away our bodies, for nothing is more dear or honorable, to us than Christ our God." This link is for a short description of the 40 Holy Martyrs of Sebastia. For those who think that the Catholic and Orthodox Church of the first millenium is not grace-filled, a read of this shows who our brothers in the Faith are and who we are part of. BOB

This is why Orthodox and Greek Catholic Americans should send (more) mission teams to work with their respective churches! We still have much to learn from our "mother churches" and they have a lot they can learn from us, like how to organize program ministries (especially for youth), educational activities, and even the importance of parish socialization.
Also, the attraction to neo-Protestant groups often lies in the fact that they appear to be modern, American/Western, and successful, in contrast to the traditional churches. An Orthodox or Greek Catholic mission team can witness to the fact that one can be fully American and modern but still be Orthodox or GC.

John: Do the people at "Carpathian Mountain Outreach 2007" believe that only people from their church are saved? In other words, do they reject that Christ has saved and is saving people through the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church ? Do they believe that the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church are not true branches of the one Vine that is Christ ? The simple answer to all your questions is "YES." From reading their website, I gather that they are generally what can be termed part of the Anabaptist sectarian tradition. Most of the folks that you meet who state their position so boldly would enthusiastically answer yes to all these questions. Not long ago I had a very nice elderly lady of my acquaintance give me a tract from Chick publications downing the Eucharist as the "death cookie" and Catholics as Hell-bound. She told me of so many ministry opportunities that her ecclesial community had targeted--particularly Greece, the former Soviet Union, Italy, and South America where she felt it was the Lord's call to convert all those Hell-bound Catholics. BOB Lamentable ! Instead of sheep stealing, we should be working together to evangelize the secularists. -- John

This is so sad to me. It really breaks my heart. All this time/money/effort going to evangelize souls who already have the True Faith. If they were serious about evangelization, why not go where the Word of God truly needs to be heard, like Iraq or Iran? Then they could die martyrs, like so many good priests and nuns, instead of spreading confusion and littering the pristine countryside with their nasty little tracts? Well. Anyway, if it makes you as sad or angry as it does me, and you would like to help the local Greek Catholic Church do more to educate their people, the Mission Society of Our Lady of Boronyavo provides support for catechist training of lay people at the Blessed Theodore Romzha Seminary, in Uzhorod, Trans-Carpathian Oblast. Also many other good programs. Also a good place for liturgy intentions, we have nice cards we send out for you to send, too. http://www.missionboronyavo.org/You can PM me if you have any questions, I can try to answer or to get an answer. Talitha,
Thanks for posting the link for the Mission Society of the Mother of God of Boronyavo. In another post, I suggested it was important to support groups like Aid to the Church in Need and CNEWA.
I am very sad to see that these other Christians have targeted our mother Church and its members, and have demonized them. I feel outraged.
We need to do a good job catechizing our own people here and abroad, doing our own evangelizing, and immersing ourselves in the scriptures.
Catholics and Orthodox need to know the Holy Bible to refute the sects.
