A most disturbing article by Dave Andrusko in March's issue of the National Right to Life News www.nrlc.org/news/index.html [nrlc.org] is titled, "Abortion in Russia Leads to Widespread Infertility."

Summarizing: 13% of all Russian couples are infertile, with diagnoses now increasing. In 75% of the cases, the cause is on the female's side and linked with previous abortions.

More children are aborted in Russia than born! 1.7 abortions for every live birth. In the USA, the ratio is 1 abortion for every 3 live births. Rand Corporation reports that the average Russian woman has 3 abortions.

All of this dark news, but always some light. Between 1992 and 2001 the abortion rate dropped some 45%! Perhaps the light of Christ does illumine all.

Let us to pray for them, that all of the victims would be healed!

With love in Christ,
Andrew

We met a couple and in fact took them to church with us many times after Russia collapsed. He was teaching at the university here, and they were Russian Orthodox.

Anyway, she had tremendous physical and psychological problems. Her husband finally sent her back to Russia so she could be with her mother. Then he told us that she had had TEN ABORTIONS . That abortion was the normal method of birth control in Russia. They had two children, but she was not able to cope with the loss of all of her children.

I don't know what ever became of them, but our hearts went out to them.

Dear Alex,

Yes, yes. I would have to say "secular humanistic democracy."

Were I raised in your Canadian context, I would have to say that I would have ended up becoming a monarchist like you.

What is the sad "rate" in Quebec?

Wishing you and your family a most blessed Lazarus Saturday (the other resurrection), Entry into Jerusalem, Holy Week, and Pascha!

May you have a most blessed Holy Week and Pascha.

Dear Reader Andrew,

Yes indeed, and thank you for your wide perspicacity in saying that as the man of deep learning, spirituality and culture that you are!

I don't know the rate, but I know it is quite sad as my friends in the Pro-Life movement tell me.

A happy Pascha to you and yours next week, you New Calendarist you! smile
