OH MY! And they wonder why the bridge burned!I didn't know this had happened... Was the San Francisco Board of Supervisors constitutionally justified in passing an explicitly anti-Catholic resolution, adopted March 21, 2006, which labeled the Vatican a foreign country whose moral teachings are hateful, insulting and callous, and insulting to all San Franciscans? http://www.calcatholic.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?id=60858126-349e-4205-aa92-a93f8d7ffcbf

This is an issue I get pretty fed up with- this idea that we Catholics and Christians are bigots because we teach biblical morality.
Anti-Catholicism is indeed the last acceptable prejudice.

Don't get too fed up with it--GLORY in it! The devil is grinding his teeth and sharpening his sword. A relief written in the former Church of Sts Sergius & Baachus in Constantinople (now a mosque called the Mosque of the Little Hagia Sophia) which encircles the interior nave of the edifice states (in part) in Greek: "St. Sergius wanted neither to die in war nor other things of this life, but to die for Christ, and so gained through his blood, the sky." Brave Sergius understood this--we should too.
- Islam conquered, subjugated and emaciated the Central & Southern Byzantines, Antiochan and Alexandrian churches. - Communism suppressed & murdered the Central & Northern Byzantines. - Both Islam and Communism have infiltrated the West.
The Church is at its GREATEST when it suffers persecution. We should all be prepared. May we have the light and life of the transfiguration shining within us. This is only the beginning...

So catholics should get out the city that is forefathers founded as one of early missions in California named after none other than St Francis himself. Imagine telling St Francis and his followers to take a hike but that is exactly what the crazy left is indeed doing. Last I checked the homosexuals did not find this most beautiful city that has been politcally maligned by the left but alas they sure act like it. Rest assured the day will come when they sue the city to change its catholic name you know the seperation of church and state the ACLU has already started that down line by suing cities to take down religious objects in their city seals such as crosses.

Most of that city resolution was junk; and it probably did violate the establishment clause of the U.S. constitution, which prohibits the government (local, state or national) from interfering with the free exercise of religion. Specifically, by a government officially condemning the teachings of a religion and its leadership, it is sending one heck of a strong message that members of that religion are not welcome in the political process and government there. It will be very interesting to watch this case make its way through the appeals courts and, perhaps, the U.S. Supreme Court.
Technically, the Vatican City State is a foreign country; so that part was accurate . . . but incomplete. The Vatican is not a nation-state or even a government in the conventional sense. It doesn't rule over a country (just a part of the city of Rome), and it doesn't rule over a people. The Vatican is an autonomous area that allows a world-wide religion to be administered.
Persecution ? Probably not. Bigotry ? Definitely.

Let God arise and His enemies be scattered. May they be driven like smoke before the wind, may they melt like wax before the fire. Stephanos I The only thing that this Board of Supervisors has accomplished is to create and even deeper annimosity towards the homosexual community. Let's vote them out of office.

So if you were a member of the Apostolic community, you would have sought to expel St. Paul for his position on sexual immorality? There's nothing wrong with animosity toward the behavior of the homosexual community. Sexual perversion is a result of those who refuse to live the ascetic life they are called to. We are what we embrace.
We are to love all people in spite of what they do--but we should not embrace "secular" behaviors and indulgence in sexual perversion which are in essense a militant effort to to replace age-old christian practices like watchfulness and dispassion.
Christians need to spread the light and life of the Trinity. Hell is real--it's not an illusion. If we do not shine our light, many will perish--that's all. Homosexuality is an intrinsic disorder--nothing more. People who have a propensity toward being consumed by flesh of the same sex should retire to a cave in the middle of the Desert than misuse their body, which as I remember--is still considered the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

how nice that they called the Vatican a "foreign country".however, I guess that they are not going to send an ambassador to the Holy See. I have tangled with fundamentalist who have a problem with the USofA sending an ambassador to the Holy See, and I wind up doing the same song and dance that the Vatican is indeed a sovereign state, and thus, Washington is not going to send ambassadors to each little fundamentalist church that wants one. however, with recognition like that from San Francisco........... Much Love, Jonn

I tend to agree with Lance. Being anti-Catholic (or anti-Christian) is truly one of the last acceptable prejudices.

Dear Pani Rose,
If I read things correctly, there was quite a bit of immorality in San Francisco before the quake of 1906. Me thinks they better be a little careful.
God Bless,
Zenovia

We have an *unbroken* succession of apostolic foundation--the Church is a nation of God. The reality that is *the Church* transcends and dwells among, within and through, all earthly Kingdoms--its source is the Uncreated Light of God. It truly exists within time and outside of time--no other nation can lay this claim, as all nations are born then die, but the Church of Christ, begotten in the Incarnation and alive in the Resurrection and Ascension, endures forever.
What's going on in the City of St. Francis is an abomination, for sure, but its no different elsewhere. The world is under attack by legions of unholy demons. We are called to live the Gospel & speak out against all unholy behavior--for this, we will surely suffer as we must... but that is our mandate if we are to participate with God's Grace and do our part in the conversion of the world.
We are called to a life of prayer, a life of sacrament, a life within the very Life of the Trinity. May we be Transfigured through Theosis; may our Lord bathe us in the Grace of His Energies--and may the prayers of Mary, the Theotokos Blachaernae, protect us!

Zenovia AMEN! Here is an interesting write up on the fire http://geology.about.com/od/historicearthquakes/a/aa_frisco06.htmThe sad thing is they 'may' think they are safe from earth quakes again, but they sure aren't safe from God and his wrath.

there are also Masses said Daily in San Francisco, charity given by many organizations, People with Aids and homeless people sheltered and loved and they would suffer this "wrath" too?? We should be a bit careful before we glory in God's wrath. It is just a silly to say "no wonder the bridge was burned" Did the driver deserve his 2nd degree burns??
