Dear dstan51,
Are you even remotely suggesting that the Armenian Orthodox are HERETICS?
How dare you! What century are you living in? Perhaps the Administrator would like to delegate a Moderator to review this post and comment on its overtly offensive tone toward the Oriental Orthodox.
Alex DStan's post was removed for its offensive tone toward the Oriental Orthodox. I hope that he will be more careful in the future to not call any fellow Christian a heretic. Alice, Moderator

The USCCB has an excellent book on this topic: Oriental Orthodox-Roman Catholic Interchurch Marriages and Other Pastoral RelationshipsProduct Code: 097-4 ISBN: 1-55586-097-4 Pages: 164 Size: 5 1/4" X 8 1/4" Inches Price: $17.95 In stock. Click here for link [ usccbpublishing.org]. There is a shorter online pamphlet "A Guide on Catholic-Orthodox Marriages for Catholic Clergy and Other Pastoral Ministers" in pdf format (24 pages) that be found by clicking here [ usccb.org]. The short answer is that the Catholic Church has no issue with the marriage being blessed by the Orthodox Church (Eastern or Oriental Orthodox) and routinely grants permission. I recommend that cyberself print out and the pamphlet and read it together with his fiancee, also making sure to give a copy to their respective pastors and then seek their guidance. May the Lord God bless both of you! Christ is Risen! Note to dstan51: Please be careful about what you post. Much of what you are posting is incorrect. You cannot just pick a sentence from official Church Teaching and condemn someone with it. If you are really interested in being Catholic you must accept and present Catholic Teaching the way the Catholic Church actually believes it and presents it.

Dear John, Thank you so much! That is indeed the text that I ultimately did spend some time looking for here today. Still haven't found it but you've got all the particulars so I can stop searching for the time being. Also the online pamphlet is a wonderful resource. Thanks! Mary

Dear Alice, I meant to say "hair ticks!" Sorry for the misspelling . . . I work with our Armenian Orthodox community here re: the genocide and their liturgical celebrations are glorious! It is always better for a family to belong to one Church. And the circumstances, more than anything else, dictate the direction one will ultimately go. And dstan and others like him would be happy to know that Oriental Orthodox DO like Pope Honorius! A good day to you! Alex

What is the nature of your work with the Armenian Orthodox Community?
Yes, their liturgical tradition is indeed awesome!

Thank you everyone for the information. The booklet "A Guide on Catholic-Orthodox Marriages" has been so useful in answering my questions!
In fact, there is a Catholic Armenian Church in Paris and my fianc and I have met with the pastor there about our marriage. If we decided to marry in the catholic church, it will be at this church. And it's our intention to attend that church regularly, in particular after we have children.
However, since it sounds like there shouldn't be any problems for me to marry in the Armenian Apostolic Church we may go in that direction... there will be a lot more discussions between the families.
Thank you for your prayers as we make this decision.

Dear Manoli, My work is largely in connection with politics. For example, I attended and spoke at a rally to honour Hrant Dink in January and also work with the Armenian Genocide commemoration. Any excuse for me to wear my Khatchkar Armenian Cross! There is a tree honoured in Israel by the Armenian Orthodox Church - they say that our Lord was tied to this tree when He was arrested. The dried nuts of this tree are strung together to make prayer beads. I've noticed, however, that the Armenian Orthodox here have completely adopted the Roman Catholic Rosary beads for their own! Alex

I am unaware of any Apostolic Armenians in California making use of the rosary, although there is nothing wrong with doing so as long as it is a private devotion.
Armenians are very devoted to the Theotokos, although this devotion is mostly expressed in private prayer, and is not immediately apparent to the casual observer.

Manoli I somewhat learned the Rosary from Romans before I ever set foot in an Armenian church. I still keep one by my pillow and say parts of the prayers sometimes.

Yes, let me qualify my remarks from over five years ago . . . I was at an Armenian Church function and saw every car with a Rosary hanging from the rear-view mirror. EVERY car had it. Don't know if that is a popular devotion with our Armenians, but they certainly use it as a badge of their Christian faith. Does anyone know about Armenian prayer beads, what they look like and their use? Alex

I did not realize that was you.
I will get back to you about the beads. It's not in the basic here's what you need to get chrismated info.
And are you sure those were Rosaries with the Mary bead and all? Chochkis or crosses are very popular as a symbol of the faith, of which Armenians are most often proud, whether or not they practice it.

Yes, they were definitely Latin, five-decade rosary beads. The kind that are used in some Byzantine Catholic parishes to say the Rosary before Divine Liturgy . . . Reading the above comment by myself to Alice from 2007 - just can't believe I was so strident then! Don't recognize myself today in those words. Alex
