Ive been trying for the past couple of days to connect to the University and Monastery of Balamand websites with no success.

I am wondering if anyone has heard anything about how they are fairing during the current hostilities? Any news appreciated.

Issac,

Unfortunately, due to the current situation and where they are located it may be a real possibility. I just checked the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese website, and no news is being given other than an appeal for intervention for the cessation of hostilities.

I also checked the website is not responding. My guess is that the monastery and seminary have been evacuated.

I have checked a number of internet sites over the past few days including the Maronite Patriarchate one and as all are Lebanon based they are all down.

News reports of power stations being bombed and other such utilities will mean that much of Lebanon is possibly without electricity and I would have expected that Telephone exchanges may also have been also taken out of action. As a former Telecom Australia employee I know that in an emergency a number of services get taken out and emergency services get to monopolize the network. As this is war my guess is the whole network that is still working is at the service of the war effort.
