Glory to God for the recovery of the icon!
I do take exception that whenever people of deep faith are written about in the secular media, they are always made out to be "superstitious". I find that to be rather offensive personally.

Yes glory to God for the recovery of this holy Icon!
Me too Father! I take deep offense that people of faith are written about in a "supersticious" light...
once again, thank God for the recovery of this Icon.

Dear Father Anthony,
Father bless! I share your views entirely on the gratuitous value judgment on our faith expressed by the BBC report and have submitted a complaint on the item. I said that as an Orthodox Christian it was offensive to me to have devotion to the Theotokos, which is an integral part of my faith, dismissed as mere peasant superstition. They had done this both in the original report on the theft of the icon and in this latest report of its recovery. I asked if they were reporting on the Muslim hajj, would they employ the term superstition in relation to the beliefs or practices of Muslim pilgrims? I will post any reply I might receive, although the site says that they get so many complaints they can't reply to every one individually!
I'm afraid that this is pretty typical of journalism here. A few years back the BBC broadcast a television programme on the Theotokos which, in the interests of objectivity of course, just had to include a dramatic reconstruction of the charge that she was raped by a Roman soldier. To add insult to injury the programme went out very close to Christmas. It caused a big outcry among Catholics, Orthodox and Anglicans. Many wondered then too if the BBC would make a similar show about Mohammad and broadcast it just before Ramadan.
Greetings from Ireland,
Brigid

I took note of the word 'superstitious' too, and upon further contemplation, I *think* they were referring to the fact that the town felt it would not be protected without the icon. If it was mentioned in that light, one can, in the very least, understand how a Protestant or agnostic person might see it that way. Just a thought.
In Christ, Alice, who reveres the protection of the holy images in icons.

At least CNN's new report is a better story as to were they are not inserting their bias as fact. CNN Story on the Icon\'s Recovery [ edition.cnn.com] In IC XC, Father Anthony+

Thank you, Father, for the link to the CNN report. I don't know what the journalist personally thought of the reported miraculous powers of the icon, or of the faith of those who leave votive offerings, because the individual's bias was not allowed to intrude. Auntie Beeb, please take note!
