Brownback has been rather effective in the Senate, and I think the Democratic powers-that-be respect him. I'm hoping that if he can get the time to make some of the proposals I heard him speak of on CSPAN recently, he might attract more attention. I'll tell you one thing. I hate our election-cycle. Waaaaaay-toooooo-loooooooong. All the frontrunners do nothing but keep time until all the challengers have shot their financial wads and dropped out. I'd much prefer to go the other way and have something like the British have, something like 40 days. Then we could get back to real-life sooner. Michael

For a moment I thought I was in a time-warp. I was reading the top paragraph on Democrats for Life of America website (which sounds encouragingly good) and got to the end: Join DFLA in honoring our pro-life advocates and learning about how we can all help to ensure that the lives of the unborn are protected and that the nation knows that not only do women deserve better - but they will have better! What my rather worn, poorly-corrected eyes picked up was "not only do women deserve better - but they will behave better!" I nearly fell off my seat. Michael

I pretty much decided that I am voting for Mitt no meter what. In addition to agreeing with Him on His positions on War against Islamic Jihadists, his social and economic stances I happen to think that the man is brilliant. Him being a Mormon and thinking that Utah is the Garden of Eden (OI VEI) will not stop me from voting for Him

The one small doctrine point I disagree with is infant baptism followed by a life characterized by knowing that one is a Christian and otherwize being non practicing except for social contacts. Parents who promise to Christian raise often break that promise because they don't have time for church. I think baptism should be reserved for those who have shown some interest in either a spiritual or intelectual life. My daugher is an infant and I have no intention to baptise her until she shows some spiritual interests. However I gave her a blessig within an hour of her birth. Mom and I were watching a Christian station from 5 hours prior to birth to 5 hours after. I also baptised the mother while she was pregnant because I couldn't find a priest to baptise her.

Dear Richard,
I am sorry but this is not the Orthodox and Catholic position. We love our children and by baptism we have the Church, the Body of Christ on earth, impart God's grace upon them in the sacred sacrament. It is infact, the ULTIMATE blessing! In the ritual, Satan is also spat upon, thereby being rebuked by the child's sponsors, and thus consecrating the new life unto God's Divine protection from evil spirits--the protection given to the followers of Jesus Christ through the holy prayers of the Church.
With that, I will ask that all further reference to infant baptism be restricted to another thread, as this has nothing to do with this thread.
Thank you.
In Christ our Lord, Alice, Moderator

Sam Brownback took an amnesty-lite position on immigration and actually gave one of the few "Dukakis answers" in the FOX News Debate. (Michael Dukakis, 1988 Democratic presidential candidate, who gave an ice-cold, pat answer when asked how he would react if his wife were raped and murdered.) Brownback was asked how he would tell a woman who had been raped that, under his laws, she should have to keep her baby. His response? He smiled, threw his hands up and down on the podium, and said glibly, "That'd be tough." Then he gave a pat answer. Awful, dreadful, hideous, and Hillary would carry 35-40 states against him. Incidentally, he looked even worse, because the next question was to Mitt Romney: how would he speak to a woman who died from an illegal abortion because of his Supreme Court nominees? He gave a compassionate answer. I have to say: having seen Huckabee a few times, I'm more and more impressed on style, though as usual I like the impossible: Duncan Hunter on substance. We'll see how Fred Thompson does when he enters the race. ------------ Western Orthodoxy Blog [westernorthodox.blogspot.com]
