I've listened to a few lectures by Prof. Osipov of the Moscow Seminary, and I am really interested in learning more about St. Ignatius. Does any one here know anything about this Saint? Has any one read any books by him?

I would recommend "The Arena" written by him primarily for monastics under his care. It reads relatively easily and offers a lot of sage advice. The book was printed by Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, but I believe it is available in most parish book stores.

I believe it has been published in both English and Russian. Maybe some of our Russian speakers can verify this.

If your refering to the Saint Ignatius, second Bishop of the church of Antioch established by Saint Peter/Kephas where followers of Christ were first called Christians from the first century [107-15] and who penned the adjective Katholikos and who also was a deciple of Saint John the evangelist and beloved apostle then this early Ante-Nicene Church Fathers epistles are online here:

If you mean the Professor you mentioned I missunderstood.

Dear Borislave,

Certainly, St Ignatius' "On the Prayer of Jesus" has to be the best classic on the practice of the Prayer - and I keep it at my bedside since one can only truly appreciate and fully learn from it by reading it slowly, a little at a time.

He took the name "Ignatius" in honour of St Ignatius of Antioch who, as he shows in his book, along with other Christians, prayed the Jesus Prayer by simply repeating the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As Ignatius of Antioch was being led to martyrdom, the pagans marvelled at what he continually repeated with his lips and he told them that he repeated the Name of the Lord Jesus since his mouth expressed what was imprinted on his heart etc.

After his martyrdom, the pagans thought to check this out . . .

They opened his chest and took out his heart. They then cut the heart in two - and on one side, they miraculously found the word, "Jesus" and on the other, "Christ!"

St Ignatius of the Black Sea suffered from ill-health, but he was a great spiritual Father to those monastics under him and a great teacher of the Jesus Prayer. His Patristic studies set a standard for his time.
