taken from zenit.org "After the ceremony, the Pope went by helicopter to Strawberry Island, the property of the Basilian Fathers, located on Lake Simcoe, where he will rest until Saturday. He will leave the island Thursday afternoon to participate in a meeting with youth at Toronto's Exhibition Place."
Is Strawberry Island Basilian as in the Greek Catholic Basilians?
"The 17-hectare (42-acre) island is used for retreats and camping. John Paul II will stay in one of its small houses."
How come us Greek Catholics don't know about this place? Or do we?

ALity, If I'm not mistaken, there is an international order of the Basilian fathers, but I wouldn't be surprised if this belonged to the Basilian fathers of the UGCC and we didn't know about it. Lauro

Dear Friends, My fraternal blessing to you! Strawberry Island is run by the Latin Rite Basilians, whose schools I was privileged to be educated in . This Order is the "Congregation of St. Basil" or "CSB" as opposed to "OSBM" or "Order of St Basil Major" or otherwise known as the "Basilians of St Josaphat." Alex

Yes, Alex is right. He should know. There is a Latin community called the Congregation of St. Basil. It was founded in France in the mid 19th century. On CNN and EWTN they showed the priest celebrating Mass; with a ceramic chalice and paten. No no for us Byzantines.

Dear Mike,
When I was in school with my Latin Rite Basilians as my teachers, I once told one of them to be respectful of the Eastern Catholic Churches as he was touching on a sensitive point (that I have forgotten now).
He snapped back, "You guys are sensitive because there's more of us (Latins) than of you."
I simply muttered something under my breath about "quality is what counts, not quantity."
"What was that, Alex?" he asked somewhat peeved. "Were you saying something in Latin there?"
He wished!
Alex
