I have been watching the View lately on ABC on my mornings off and today Michael Moore was on. He was discussing his new film Sicko which is about the health care crisis in America. For the first time I think I may actually voluntarily see one of his films. Although it is almost impossible to separate the health care problem from politics he really didn't seem to have a political agenda behind this.
Now, finally, to my point. He was talking with the guest host Star Something or other, who I found to be insufferably annoying, and sh e was going on and on about something I still can't fully comprehend. He then said something like "you are a born again Christian and I am a Catholic. I go to church every week. I am not promoting socialized health care but I want Christian health care."
For the first time I kinda saw him in a different way. Did anyone else see this or has anyone else heard this. I must say I was surprised.
Peace, Katie g

Michael Moore is obviously an Irish American, and I have heard that he was raised Roman Catholic.
To say it nicely, he would fit in well in Cardinal Mahoney's ideal Catholic model.

This just proves that Christians of all confessions can be annoying, and can have bad production values. Dave

According to Wikipedia, Moore was raised Roman Catholic.

Peace, Katie g Interesting.... No one can deny that the health care system in this country is an embarrassment. Doctors even deny new patients who will pay out of pocket, but may not have health insurance, like students in graduate schools and people who are employed by small companies that will not provide insurance for whatever reason... You would actually think that they would prefer $100 cash in their pockets to a $5 copay. Nothing makes sense in this country anymore.

To say it nicely, he would fit in well in Cardinal Mahoney's ideal Catholic model. Dear Monomakh, I recall years ago, reading an article on the current movies and TV programs. The author asked the writers why they persisted in writing so many sexually explicit movies and programs, when they were not any more profitable than the ones that were not. They responded that they wanted to see how far they could go. The writers names were Irish. God Bless, Zenovia

Dear Alice,
There is many reasons why our health care is so high. One is the equipment. The cost is astronomical. That cannot be avoided. Also, wages are high for workers in the hospitals, and that again cannot be avoided. What can be avoided is the outlandish lawsuits, and how much the doctors have to pay for insurance. I have heard that some doctors in N.Y.C. pay up to $300,000 a year.
Edwards made a fortune on one of those law suits regarding the birth of a child, and since then, whenever there is the slightest complication, the doctor will give a caesarean.
In my day and age, if something happened to someone, the money they would get from a lawsuit would be equivalent to the wages they lost or would lose in future wages. The so called mental or emotional anguish would never be taken into account. That is something we all suffer regardless of whether we have a case to sue or not.
God Bless,
Zenovia

Yes, Michael Francis Moore is Irish-American and a Roman Catholic!
So, if he champions the cause of the "small guy," in his own inimitable way, he should be crucified? I am with him with his "Sicko!"
By the way, Roman Catholics these days come in a variety of colors: Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan; Jeb Bush and George P. Bush, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, Justice Samuel Anthony Alito, Jr. and Chief Justice John Glover Roberts, Jr. and many more in between. <> <> <>

Health care is so high, and we have so many people uncovered because we have a profit motive in health care insurance. It is not just medicine and machines, although they too, contribute.
When there is profit to be had, vulnerable populations of the sick and elderly are either going to be charged extremely high premiums or be dropped from the system. While on the other hand, some HMO CEO's have garnered obscenely high bonuses and salaries.
We are spending more per capita than nearly every other industrialized country and have less people covered. People will always point to problems with health care systems in Europe, but the fact remains is we have problems here too, we have people who are not covered, do not go to the doctor (like my ex-wife, and then she got cancer, and could have been treated better earlier if she could have gone and had it discovered earlier), do in fact wait for some services(which is a criticism that opponents of health care reform throw at the other systems).
we need to go to single payor. We have to make a decision whether or not we value people's health care, or whether we have a sacred cow in the so-called free market.
We started school lunch programs in this country, because young men were shopping up for duty in the Armed forces with bad teeth and bones and other health issues.
Our country is better off when we have a health population, with preventative medicine and exercise emphasized.
I myself do not have health care at the moment; I lost my job, and could not afford the COBRA while unemployed. I have diabetes. I have worked and payed taxes for 33 years.
One comment about Michael Moore, I do not agree with everything he says and does, and think he has personal flaws. But I do not judge his catholcism on his politics. I get tired of hearing people judge where some people are at spiritually just based on their politics. It gets old.
Michael Moore responded to an e-mail I sent him personnally a few years ago. He told me that his Catholic Faith was very important to him, and that he looked to Catholic heroes like Dorothy Day and Oscar Romero.

But I do not judge his catholcism on his politics. I get tired of hearing people judge where some people are at spiritually just based on their politics. It gets old. Michael Moore is a strong advocate of infanticide of the unborn, also known as abortion. On his webiste, many times, he advocates infanticide of the unborn. Here is an example: http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=200But let's take a day to rejoice and revel in a rare victory for our side -- the side that doesn't believe in unprovoked invasions of other countries. This is your day, my friends. You have worked hard for it. I can't tell you how proud I am to count all of you as part of the greater American mainstream we now occupy. Thank you for all the time you gave this week to get out the vote. Some of you have been at this since the large demonstrations of February 2003 when we tried to stop the war before it started. Only 10-20% of the country agreed with us at that time. Remember how lonely that was? Some people were even booed! Now, 60% of the country agrees with our position. They are us and we are them. What a nice, strange, hopeful feeling.
A woman, for the first time in our history, will be Speaker of the House. The attempt to ban all abortion in the conservative state of South Dakota was defeated. His support of infacticide of the unborn goes well beyond politics. It really can't be compared to debating the merits of the Taft-Hartley Act. Infanticide of the unborn is the saddest and worst moral tragedy in the US since slavery, questioning how in the world a Catholic can champion it isn't judgemental, it is calling a spade a spade. Adolf Hitler was a Catholic. Mussolini was a Catholic. Julian the Apostate was a Catholic.
