Dear KS,
You could contact Father Elie at Our Lady of Lebanon in Coral Gables, Fl. He would know.
No inclusive language for the Maronites!

While the Maronites have not stuck inclusive language into the Holy Offering; the whole facing-the-congregation-thing, along with Western vestments, unleavened Bread, Latin altars, and filioque should be troublesome (just some of the things that come to mind, off the top of my head). Thankfully they are in the process of restoration.

All of the Syriac Liturgical Traditions: Chaldean, Syriac, Maronite, Syro-Malabar, and Syro-Malankara have the priest leading the worship facing East; the people should also face East. Some have decided to latinize themselves after Vatican2, others do it the right way "at home" and the 'Latin way' in the west, under the Latin ordinaries.

As far as i knew the last time I celebrated in the Maronite Church it was with the back towards the people. But then again it was awhile ago. Getting Old!!! LOL!!!

Since the priest facing the people and not facing the liturgical East is a new fairly new development within the Latin Church itself (you know, only allowed within the last 40 years), perhaps it should just be termed a modernization or post-Vatican Two-ization rather than a latinization! wink

Here is a link to a video of the Consecration of the Gifts, according to the Maronite Tradition.

It is chanted in Aramaic.

B-T-W, tt is spelled M-a-r-o-n-i-t-e, not Marionite. They take their name from St.Maron.

So why are the Maronites (and Father Deacon is right; that is the correct spelling) using Latin wafers instead of leavened bread?

Since we're sharing, check out this video of the Syriac Orthodox Consecration of Holy Myron [youtube.com]. Mostly in Aramaic, a little Malayalam, little Arabic.

And here's a Syro-Malankara Holy Qurbono [youtube.com] celebrated in a Latin parish in Germany.

YouTube has 120 different videos with the word Maronite in the description. Here is one. It is described as a 2006 7-part audio recording of the Service of Offering in Syriac (i.e. Aramaic). Based on the 2005 Antiochan Syriac Maronite ktobo dqurbono (Liturgy)

Hideous visually, yes. My ears thought it was beautiful!
