Dear Friends,

Two icons in Ukraine have started to weep tears of Myrrh.

http://www.orthodox.org.ua/News-R_ooua.php?id=4655

A reproduction icon of the Mother of God "Pantanassa" (patron against cancer, I understand) and an ancient icon of Saint Panteleimon the Healer have begun to drip myrrh - and this occurs during the Divine Liturgy.

This is occurring in the Church of the Holy Dormition in the village of Great Kosnitsa in the Tulchyn Eparchy.

It is interesting that the icons dripping Myrrh are both "healing patrons" in the first instance.

And also that the icon of St Panteleimon is an ancient one, but the icon of the Mother of God is but a modern copy.

It is as if, I think, Heaven is affirming that there is no difference between old and new with respect to icons - they can be equally used as a source for miracles of healing!

Most Holy Mother of God, Protector against cancer, save us!

Holy Martyr Panteleimon the all-merciful healer - pray unto God for us (and for your servant, Bob Orthoman),

Alex

Dear Hal,

One could suppose that Heaven is blissfully ignorant of our man-made jurisdictions and divisions on earth!

As one of our bishops said in the 17th century, "Surely our divisive walls don't reach up as high as Heaven?"

Dear Alex:

You are, of course, more than correct. I was just publicly laughing at myself a little bit - hence the big grin.

Yours,

hal

Alex,

Actually, one might hope that Heaven is blissfully ignorant of them, as otherwise we may all find ourselves answering for why we have allowed them to continue.

Many years,

Neil

Dear Brother Neil,

Well, if at the final Judgement I AM asked why I allowed the divisions in the church to continue, I"ll just pass the blame and say that if it was up to me - everyone would be like me!

And the fact that no one would agree to that could not have been my fault! smile

Dear Alex, both the article and the website itself are very interesting. I particularly enjoy the information and the icons on the calendar off to the side, there! I've not seen a calendar link to the icons that way, and it was delightful!
(A suggestion for unicorne, perhaps?)

Gaudior, pleased

Halychanon,

What is MP propaganda?

Thanks! Shestelle

p.s.

Christ Jesus can use any means to catch our attention! Myrrh-gushing icons is one way.
Couldn't read the web site -- is it in English?

Shestalle:

My comment was somewhat of an inside joke. Don't worry about it.

Shestelle, on that site you have a choice between reading it in Russian or in Ukrainian...if you prefer Russian, there is a little flag on the right hand side to change the language. They do not have it in English that I noticed.

Gaudior, in hopes that helps

Halcychanyn, Gaudior,

Thanks for your reply concerning "MP Propaganda"

Inside jokes can be unsettling for newcomers. Propaganda is just a reminder of so many "brain-washing techniques" used by subversive groups.

I often wonder what Our Lord Jesus Christ would say upon seeing what has evolved in the Church the Gospel says He founded upon Peter?

Once I read somewhere that Jesus did say that 'When I return upon the earth will I find Faith among you." (not quite the words but the idea of them.

Concerning Russian/Ukrania web-site. Say the icons, coundln't read/ too bad it can't be accessed in English.

Shestelle

Shestelle, please do not feel unsettled by jokes or comments that you may not understand. Many of the posters are long-time friends, online, or otherwise, and as such often make comments that the rest of the forum is "in the know" on.

I do not know what your ethnic or religious background is, but I know that it often takes a while for people to become familiar with the words, abbreviations, politics (in the sense of national, not religious) and liturgics of churches even from one's own religion, as different churches have small, slight variances between them. Slavs and Antiochian Orthodox have slight differences in practices, which may be slightly different from the Greeks! I use these as an example as you say you are Orthodox, but it is equally true of the Byzantine Catholics and the Latin Catholics. With patience, once you get to know the players, and learn to "speak" their language (even when it looks like English) you will be able to understand more comforatably..

And, feel free to ask questions when you do not understand an acronym, or are confused about hierarchical structures, etc. I know that some parts of the USA have very limited exposure to other branches of their own faith, as Orthodox Churches (and Byzantine Catholic Churches) are in some places the only one around for a hundred miles or so! (this is especially true in the South)

If you do not feel comfortable asking what you think is a "silly" question on post, PM the person who posted, and they will be more than happy to enlighten you!

Gaudior, who shall try to keep allusions to a minimum
