http://www.rep-am.com/story.php?id=9328 Interesting story...not surpising given the anti-religious bias at some community college campuses. Gordo

Reminds me of the Russian Orthodox priest who taught mathematics at a Moscow university before, during, and after the Revolution. Seems he continued to wear his cassock and priest's cross to class after the Revolution. Eventually he was made a martyr, even thought he was a brilliant mathematician, because the new order couldn't stand a priest having such a public position and influencing the next generation. Can't remember his name, but the story circulated here at one time. Feeds my theory: our country is about in the same position as Russian society of 100 years ago. How much things change; how much things stay the same. BOB

I thought James A. Crowley was at one time a Deacon of the St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East in New Britain, CT.
Did he become a member of the Chaldean Church or that a mistake by the paper?

The priest-martyr was probably St. Pavel Florensky no?
Fr. Pavel Florensky completed his university studies before entering the Academy - an unusual act for the times, considering the academic milieu's hostility towards religion. He graduated in 1908 and stayed to teach the history of philosophy. Famous for presenting his subject in a vibrant and attractive manner, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1911. Although cautious of Florensky's theological innovations, Popov respected his sincerity and dedication to truth. When Florensky assumed editorship of Bogoslovskii Vestnik (after Popov) he attracted new ideas and authors, even women, much to the chagrin of the old guard. Archimandrite Illarion (Troitsky) became inspector of the Academy in 1913. His dissertation, "The New Testament Teaching on the Church," was hailed as an authoritative masterpiece. Illarion was later one of the most vocal proponents of the reestablishment of the Patriarchate at the All-Russian Council. Both Illarion and Popov were sentenced to exile at Solovki. Illarion died in exile, while Popov was executed in 1938; Florensky was sentenced to hard labor and executed in 1937.
+Father Archimandrite Gregory, who asks for your holy prayers!
