This past week I received a mailing for the Slovakfest Midwest XIII with a flier that states that Bishop Milan Sasik will serve Divine Liturgy at 12:00 noon on Sunday, August 17 at Park Place of Countryside, 6200 Joliet Road, Countryside, IL. There's a website: www.slovakusa.org [slovakusa.org]

"Holy Mass"? Holy misnomer Batman! Another reason
to hope for a "native" Transcarpathian Eparch for
Uzhorod-Muckachevo, not a Latin bi-ritual prelate, Bozhe Moj!

Ung-Certez,

I think it is a little unfair to slam Bishop Milan for what a Slovak organization puts on its website.

Or just maybe Bishop Milan is going to serve according to the Latin Rite for the Slovaks, eh? :-)

Entirely possible, but it is still unfair to paint Bishop Milan as somehow not Greek Catholic enough because he is Slovak or is going to celebrate a Latin Mass for Latin majority Slovak Festival.

Yes, but isn't Bp. Milan just an Administrator or has he the full powers of a Eparchial Bishop??

Why would a Greek Catholic bishop come all the way here to celebrate a RC Mass?

Because, he does not think our liturgy is relevant in this modernism world we live in. Its my guess.

Because he has affection for the Slovak community in the United States?

I am sure this theory wont be so popular as it does not malign any bishop nor attempt to read his mind...but here I go.

Maybe the people who put this in made a mistake?

I mean I have met plenty of good ole Rusin GCs in this country that call the Divine Liturgy "Mass" I have even called churches (BC ones that is) where the recording says "Mass is at..." and if I drive around the BC heartland I think I can find a BC church that will have a sign that gives mass times.

Maybe it is not the poor bishop that wrote "Mass"?

In posting the original message it was my intent simply to inform people of Bishop Milan's being in the US in the hope that perhaps those members living near Chicago would want to see him. I am sorry to see that it has degenerated into a debate of semantics and trying to read into his intentions. If anyone recalls, Bishop Milan Chautur served a Divine Liturgy at the Slovak Day in Holmdel, NJ not so many years ago.

Fr. Matthew,

Thank you for saving this thread from degeneration! I guess we can assume that the bishop will be celebrating the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. Thank you for confirming this.

I am only presuming it will be the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom. There's an e-mail address at the website so anyone can write for clarification.

How odd, that place is six blocks from where I live!

However, I was thinking of going to Niagara that weekend.
