Slava Isusu Christu!

With the new book in use, we have lost the words and music for:

"So Great is God, in power and glory".

Could someone be kind enough to pm or email the pdf to me so it can be printed out and distributed for use at our parish?

Thank you so much!

In Christ,

Michael

Go ahead and add the words for "Oh Jesus Lord, We ask you to bless us..." - different words, same music.

Actually, that piece of music was composed by Dmitry Bortniansky as a melody for Tantum Ergo, Sacramentum.

Any more information on this or references would be appreciated.

This version, being a more literal translation than the one in the Levkulic "pew book," may be of interest to some:

Yes, that's a very good translation and most faithful to the Slavonic setting!

Haven't got a reference handy at the moment. However, one may note that in Russian Orthodox circles, there is an unwritten ritual taboo against singing "Kol' Slaven" in Church - the reason (which most Russian Orthodox have long since forgotten) is that the music was originally written for Tantum Ergo, Sacramentum.

Oh, I just thought Great Russians wouldn't use it because Bortniansky was Ukrainian. biggrin

As an aside, the Romanian Orthodox seem to like Kol Slaven--I have three different music books that include the words and music for Ct de mărit este Domnul n Sion. However, they've added a lot of eighth notes to Bortniansky's original music (in order to accommodate the extra syllables in the Romanian translation) and they changed the final cadence.
