From today's Vatican Bollettino (sorry, only available in Italian at the moment):

Quote

Excellent and welcome news! One looks for good work and solid accomplishments from this new Eparchy. We particularly hope that the new Eparchy will have a fruitful, brotherly cooperation with the Apostolic Catholic Church of the East, which also has a significant number of faithful in Australia.

It seems a pity that the Chaldean church could not erect an eparchy on it's own authority.

Nevertheless, it is clearly needed and congratulations with best wishes are in order! I echo the hope of Father Serge that this will lead to strong fraternal ties and cooperation with the Apostolic Church of the East, also present in the land.

David,

Thank you for the information.

Congratulations to and prayers for the faithful of the Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Sydney of the Chaldeans and to the Proto-Eparch, Mar Djibrail.

Father Serge,

It is my understanding that there are close ties between the Chaldean and Assyrian communities in Oceania and that they make much use of the Pastoral Agreement between their Churches to assure the spiritual care of their respective communities there in places where only one or the other has clergy but both have faithful.

Michael,

Shlomo Lkhoolkhoon,

Here is the background on the new Eparch.

Arch-Eparch Djibrail Kassab was born 4 Aug 1938. He was appointed Arch-Eparch of Basra on 24 Oct 1995, and ordained to that post on 5 May 1996. He was transfered to the Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Sydney for the Chaldeans on 21 Oct 2006. (The former information was gotten from from the Hierarchy website)
