I was just curious - who plans to come to the Pilgrammage this coming weekend? I may be there for part of Friday.

I'll be there. I'm staying in the Holiday Inn and in case anyone wants to learn about the vocational sacraments stop by. I'll be helping to teach the children.

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

I'll be there off and on all weekend long. My family lives about 10 mins from the Mount so, I'll be staying there and commuting.

I know for sure that I will be there bright and early Sunday morning for the OCS Divine Liturgy and then of course Sunday evening and then at the crack of dawn on Monday morning.

Will also be there sometime Sunday afternoon to meet some seminarian friends from Uzhorod via Roma...

Wishing everyone a safe trip and prayerful Otpust!

mark

God willing and the creek don't rise (and my car with nearly 203,000 miles on it makes it) I will be there starting sometime Friday PM, with my oldest and my youngest. We will be staying in Chez Coleman down on the old racetrack.

I'll be lead cantor for the Saturday noon Liturgy at the Shrine Altar. Come & Pray!

Mark, the Sunday OCS Liturgy is my favorite "guilty pleasure" wink at Otpust, and I always try to be in the cantor-crowd for it. At our parish we have 2 more-or-less Slavonic liturgies per month, and I am far from alone in saying I'd happily do away with them - we are NOT an "ethnic" parish & you see fewer families with kids on those Sundays, and they don't do a lot towards evangelizing greater America - or at least not in Columbus. (My husband calls them "hum-along Sundays") but at Uniontown I love it, 'cause it's done well, the folks who attend WANT to be there, and it's not the only liturgical opportunity of the day.

Cheers,

Sharon

Does anyone know at which, if any, of the liturgies the "new" music will be sung? I would love to get a chance to hear some of this.

The music and text for the peoples parts of the Divine Liturgies will consist of the traditional texts and settings. The rubrics for the liturgies will most likely be those of the revised liturgy, which is now promulgated and mandatory everywhere except in the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh.

The customary translations for the other services will be used. Each cantor assigned to lead a service is free to use the music he or she chooses.

Things are, of course, always subject to change.

"The rubrics for the liturgies will most likely be those of the revised liturgy, which is now promulgated and mandatory everywhere except in the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh."

Please forgive me for correcting you, but this is in no way even vaguely true.

The Eparchies of Passaic, Parma, and Van Nuys, all use a recension of the 1965 liturgy that was mandated for their parishes. This is NOT the Liturgy approved by Rome and not yet promulgated by the Council of Hierarchs of the Byzantine Metropolitan Province.

It is important, in a time when people are easily "spooked" by rumors, that things that are placed on this board be completely accurate.

Dear Professor Thompson,

Thank you for your post. What I have posted is correct.

Please note that I specifically spoke only to the rubrics, not to the texts for the Divine Liturgy. The rubrics used for the celebration of the Divine Liturgies at last years pilgrimage (and at the hierarchical Divine Liturgies in recent years) are indeed very similar to those provided in the Revised Divine Liturgy. They are also extremely close to the rubrics currently promulgated in the Eparchies of Passaic, Parma and Van Nuys (although each does vary a bit). The rubrics are certainly closer to the Revised Divine Liturgy than they are to the 1965 liturgicon. It is incorrect to suggest that the rubrics for the above mentioned celebrations of the Divine Liturgy (with changes in the deacons dialogues, traditionally quiet prayers taken aloud, litanies shortened, and etc.) are closer to the 1965 liturgicon than they are to the Revised Divine Liturgy.

For anyone coming to Uniontown from the west, specifically if you are planning on using I-70 - there is road construction (?) between Bentleyville and Charleroi and traffic is narrowed to one lane in each direction. An alternative route would be to take I-79 south from I-70 East and then use US 40 to get to Uniontown. Friday and Monday are likely to be busy on 70.

For what it's worth, PennDOT (PennDon't!) repaves this road every few years until the semis ruin the asphalt. Then it's the same thing all over again.

Coming from Columbus, THANK YOU!

Oh - in PA and Ohio, we have two seasons: Winter and Road Construction.

Mr. Administrator:

"The rubrics for the liturgies will most likely be those of the revised liturgy, which is now promulgated and mandatory everywhere except in the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh."

Since "which is" is in the singular, it can only be read as refering to the "revised liturgy," not to the "rubrics," which would have taken "which are."

And while the rubrics in the liturgical books of Passaic, Parma, and Van Nuys may be similar to the Rome-approved AND NOT PROMULGATED text, they are not the same.

The Divine Liturgy of the Eparchy of Passaic is a recension of the 1965 liturgikon? Where in that liturgikon is the text "With wisdom, let us profess our faith"???

Professor Thompson,

Thank you for your post. Thanks also for pointing out my grammatical error. I should have used which are in that sentence.

The rest of your post is in agreement with what I have already posted. The text and music for the peoples parts of the Divine Liturgies will be the traditional texts and settings. The rubrics used for the celebration of the Divine Liturgies will be very similar to those that are part of the revision of the Divine Liturgy (and which are very close but not identical to what has been mandated in the Eparchies of Passaic, Parma and Van Nuys).
