BTW, Father Roberson from CNEWA has posted the stats on Eastern Catholic Churches culled from the Annuario Pontifico 2004. His introductory comments are here: Introductory Remarks by Father Roberson [ cnewa.org] The 2004 Stats (data reported in 2003) are here: Annuario Pontificio 2004 Eastern Catholic Churches - statistics [ cnewa.org] Many years, Neil

Neil,
Thanks for the information.
Is there any way you can post some of the information here? To load the information from that webpage seems to require Adobe Acrobat, etc. and I'm on the school computers.
Thanks, Logos Teen

Garrett, Your school computers don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader downloaded? Tell them to get into the 20th century. I'll try and post some of the numbers in a bit, after I deal with diapers, bottle, and lunch for the little princess (I'm the only one - big or little - here today who is not suffering from some sort of flu/cold misery - which means tomorrow will be my turn ). Dear Logos Teen, Try downloading Adobe Acrobat from the web site: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html On the left under "Downloads" click on: "Free Adobe Reader" follow the instructions. see if that works for you. Paul

Paul, I thought about suggesting that, but I suspected they may have a firewall that precludes downloading (although I wouldn't be surprised if Garrett has figured out how to get around it ) Many years, Neil

Well, I got my system administrator to fix it. Alas, Neil, I am not a computer nerd. Logos Teen

Is there any way we can lure Anastasios back? :rolleyes: Married priests? Metropolitan Judson, may his memory be eternal, seemed to think that growth for his church would come from the southern and western parts of the U.S. I haven't heard Metropolitan Basil say what he thinks about this.

If we are a gift to the world it would appear that fewer and fewer people believe it. I don't see why we have four bishops at this point. I know some congregations that are larger than our entire BC Archeparchy.
As a convert I'm trying to figure out why we are shrinking and not growing. I know that I've always been moved by courage and steadfastness. Are these attractive to others? If so, do we have enough to go around?

Dan L We probably - no evidently - have not done that great a job of showing our gifts to the world. In some places, excessive ethnicity and clique-ishness haven't helped matters either. Every single one of us should invite at least one person to Divine Liturgy in the next month. That's not an unreasonable task. We also need to actively support missions since that is where any new growth will have to come from.

Byz,
There is no BC Church listed for Knoxville. I know you play for an RC Church but where do you count home as far as Churches go? Do you know any other BC's in Knoxville? Could a mission make it in your area? I'm a bit agitated over these stats. I'm trained in Evangelism and have practiced it to good end for several years. I just can't understand why we are shrinking and not growing.

Many of the Eastern Catholic Churches seem to be growing by leaps and bounds. I realize that some of this is a result of the collapse of Communism, but nevertheless it's quite encouraging for many of the Churches.
While the overall worldwide stats for the Byzantine-Ruthenian Church look good, North American stats look dismal.

Look at the growth Ethiopian?Eritrean Church slipping but still up signigicantly from 1990 The Armenian Church grew immensely it almost trippled the Coptic Church nearly doubled. The Syro Malankara Church almost doubbled. The Syrian Church grew by over 23,000.The Maronite Church grew by a million. Chaldean Church dropped by a little less than 100,000. The Syro Malanbar Church increased almost 1 million. The Melkite Church increased by 326,000. The Ukranian Church grew by almost 4 million. Alas the Ruthenians took a terrible nose dive, in the Arch Eparchy and terrible in Parma also, same in Passaic and horrendous in Van Nuys, but the end result is still and impressive 597,000.The Romanian Church had a terrible setback. Greek Catholics in the former Yugoslavia increased by neary 30,000. The Greek Catholic Church maintaining its own, while Bulgaria slips.The others somewhat down.
Pretty impressive as a whole but you Ruthenians need to get cracking. Stephanos I

If I'm reading these statistics right it indicates that the UGCC is losing ground not only world wide but the vast majority of their losses are in Ukraine itself! In fact western Ukraine. Check the statistics for Livov from 2000 to 2004. And here I thought, from reading the claims here, that all the UGCC's in western Ukraine were full while the Orthodox Churches in eastern Ukraine were empty!
=========
UGCC Worldwide -
2000----------5,159,633 2004----------4,321,508
LOSS--------- 838,125
This is interesting!
Diocese of Livov -
2000-----------1,607,000 2004----------- 650,000
LOSS--------- 957,000 (almost a million in 4 years!)
Diocese of Kiev -
2000-----------300,000 2004-----------200,000
LOSS-----------100,000
========
