There is even an icon of the Theotokos and a very interesting one of the Last Supper.

My husband's uncle has his BVM tattoo on his arm and I've seen a couple guys in local churches who originally came from Central America with full color Guadalupes on their arms.

I'm not a fan of tattoos, personally. Although, I was once in a coffee shop in an Italian neighborhood and the proprieter, who was a talkative young fellow, had a striking tattoo that I thought was the Virgin Mary. It was like a painting. It was a tattoo of his late mother in traditional Italian garb. His fiancee had paid for an artist to design it. He then proceeded to tell me how lucky he was to have found such a woman to marry!

I have a couple on my arm:
1.) A copy of my byzantine cross I wear on my necklace latched to a crown of thorns arm band on my right arm.
2.) A sun on my shoulder with the Holy Spirit dove flying out in front of it. The sun rays represent all my brothers and sisters (12 of us) blue for boys and pink for girls. The whole tatoo is an expression of how we were all raised with the guidence and love of the Holy Ghost leading my parents.

My sister has been trying to talk me into getting a Fleur-de-lis on my back right shoulder with her... a brother/sister thing. Our mother's family is from Quebec...

I knew it was associated with the Theotokos, but when I looked it up on Wikipedia I also came to learn "As a religious symbol it may represent the Holy Trinity, or be an iconographic attribute of the archangel Gabriel, notably in representations of the Annunciation.[2] It is also associated with the Virgin Mary." Which is kinda cool.

So far, the one I have is enough... If I can keep avoiding it, maybe she will lose interst... lol

The only problem with the tattoos is that 30 years later and you become old & stretchy what is that tattoo going to look like?

Just A thought ^^

A very good thought! Also, you have to put up with children asking, "grandpa, who was Metallica?" wink

Dan, there was a cartoon like this in the newspaper recently. Thirty years from now, a little girl is asking her grandmother if it was once a trend for girls to get barbed wire tattooed on your wrist, like she has....

I have been tempted to put that question to young girls who flaunt a broad tattoo above their rear.

I don't really care for tatoos although I have seen some really good 'artwork'. I guess it is kind of like my dad, when I was kid I noticed a amall hole in his ear and asked what that was from. biggrin You know enquiring minds! He had his ear peirced when he was in the Navy, on board ship during WWII. - ROFL here - That is the funniest thing I could EVER think of my dad doing.

I guess if you absolutely *have* to have a tattoo, that is a pretty nice one...since it will always be with you, you will have to live up to it for all the days of your life! smile

Alice

Personally, I don't like tattoos for a variety of reasons, but one of the most logical ones is because I don't like black and blue bruises or scar, so why would I chose to have a permanent black and blue mark on my skin?!?--but hey, that's just me.... wink smile

I want to get a tattoo, but to be honest I am not complete about it... no one can tell me with a full heart whether it's ok or not according to the Church and this is what is holding me back right now.

I want a Chi-Rho surrounded by three circles

My dad (memory eternal) advised me against tatoos, piercings, etc. years ago when I was young. He was a survivor of Nazi Germany and World War II. His advice on the subject was this: "Do not get anything done that can permanently identify you to the authorities."
