For the same reason I don't particularly care for the term, "Orthodox in communion with Rome," either. It seems another use of language to confuse rather than enlighten.

In think one of the biggest confusing phrases is utilized by the "Ruthenian" Church: Byzantine Catholic Church? We Churches that make exclusive use of the traditions, spirituality and theology of the Byzantine Rite are no less that Byzantine Catholic. We are all the Byzantine Catholic Church, not just the Ruthenians (American Carpatho-Rusyn Catholics), so why not use something else?

Certainly Orthodox in Communion with Rome is less confusing.

I think that the eastern Catholic churches were more Orthodox in practice and belief at the time they united with Rome. But it seems to me that every Orthodox church that has united with Rome is now latinized to a greater or lesser degree, depending on the specific church. If I were Orthodox and heard that term, I might seriously disagree with it.

I believe this is because of how ethnically diverse the Ruthenian Catholic Church in the United States has become.

I found this discussion rather interesting as a former member of the Church of Rome (western rite) and a proud member of the Greek Church for the last quarter of a century. Like all converts, I believe my "new" church was and is far better than the one I came from. What I like best about Orthodoxy besides "smells and bells" is the concept economia and all it implies. IN MY OPINION, it allows for more flexibility dealing individual people and individual situations than the over-emphasis on canon Law that (in my opinion) infects the Latin Church. I am a free thinker who teaches at teach at a Catholic university; my Catholic colleagues consider me too conservative, while my Orthodox feel I am too liberal. I've learned to live with the fact that I am neither fish nor file.
