Father Ihar,

A very interesting article. I have made it no secret that I do appreciate Met. John Zizoulas' writings. I was a little disturbed by this part of the article:

Quote
His suspicion of Western influence upon Orthodoxy can hardly be exaggerated. When I raise the question of homosexuality he claims that the Greek Church is traditionally flex-ible and non-judgemental on such issues, but is now becoming more puritanical - due to Western influence. Likewise he ascribes Orthodoxy's weakness for individualistic spirituality to Western pietism.

I'm curious what he means by these things...if they in fact accurate reflections of his thinking on the matter.

I look forward to reading the new book!

God bless,

Gordo

I also found these comments to be, well..., odd. I'm curious to get the book eventually and also to read more of his grace's articles.

That is quite the curious statement. I wonder how Theo Hobson raised such a question. That could help us understand what Metropolitan John Zizioulas meant with those claims.

Is it common for interviews to be hidden in wandering commentary in English journals?

Is there a language problem? Perhaps he is not fluent in English and did not understand the question.

Metropolitan John lives in Scotland, which is in Great Britain, the place they still do speak and write in English.

Was "the question of homosexuality" regarding its nature as a sin, whether priests should be openly homosexual, if they should bless homosexual unions or 'marriages', whether homosexuals should be socially accepted in society, or something else?

I would in this case prefer the Q & A format for the interview than a narrative. Unless the claims can be affirmed by Metropolitan John as accurately depicting his intentions, I question the narrator.

So is His Eminence's title of Metropolitan of Pergamon titular? Is there no Eparchy of Pergamon?

Even if the former Prime Minister "religiously" refuses to believe in the subjunctive mood? biggrin
