Today the deacons and their here in Birmingham, had lunch with Bishop Baker. Fr. Deacon Stan and I went. His words are very clear and he speaks with power, love, and very down to earth. Everyone was very pleased and excited.

He got introduced to Alabama football today. They held the lunch during the Alabama game and not the Auburn. The deacons made sure he understands that is not allowed to mess with their football game time. biggrin

The Bisop said he has several signed footballs from very notable coaches - sorry I can't remember which ones - he said he was using one in a teaching he was doing on running to the goal. The person that was with him handed him the wrong football to throw. He said, he found out quick about football!

So, he is a football fan. I guess that means he has to be good! biggrin

Alabama? You know, even though I go to Georgia I grew up a big Auburn fan. My great-grandmother, my grandparents, my mom, aunt, both uncles, and little sister all attend(ed) Auburn. There is nothing, literally nothing, I hate more than Alabama football. wink

Bishop Baker is from the town where I live. Did he say that he was a Buckeye fan?!

I understand that he is very good friends with Lou Holtz.

The Birmingham diocese is gaining a very good bishop!

God bless

Thanks Lynn, I agree, I was very impressed with the 'lot' he said in a comparatively very short time.

Yes, that was the story he shared about the football, having the wrong one given to him to throw.

So we are in good hands. My husband and sons are all Ohio State football fans as we are from Steubenville. So when they are yelling Alabama around here, he hollars GO BUCKEYES!

Our son bought an Appilation St(think that is the right team) that beat Michigan the other week, so he could wear it in the restaurant for the Michigan fans.

TEEN - there is no way to explain fist fights in grocery store parking lots to people over Alabama Football. Seriously! To say one can hate it, can be an understatement.

Back to Bishop Baker, he said if the Alabama coach wants to invite him to a game once a year - since he is Catholic too - he would be glad to accept. biggrin

So I say, he knows how to be a team player, but takes the authority to make sure that he directs his team to win the battle for Christ!
