I hope that's the right term.

Do you have one? Have they been helpful to you?

How does one find a spiritual director?

Currently my spiritual director is my local priest. I believe that is how it is most commonly determined. When I began my search for a new parish some years ago...to me that was the first and foremost thing in my mind...after going without a spiritual guide for some number of years (as a priest once said to me "you can't give what ya don't got") the biggest thing I looked at, was: could this parish be a place of prayer and spiritual growth...and does it have a spiritual leader who is spiritual...

Now there are situations where the local parish priest won't do...for various reasons...eg...as a candidate to the priesthood in the late 1980's & early 1990's I was away at school so was not around my home parish...yet I wasn't weekly, at the local parish in Scranton either...I actually asked a priest about 2 hours away (with approval of the bishop and vocations director) to be my spiritual director and would spend several weeks a year (and several weekends in between) living in his rectory and working and praying at his parish while sitting with him 1 on 1 normally several times a day......Ahhhh...those were the days!!!

Chris

Wow, that sounds nice!

Ok, so it's usually the local priest? Hmmm. I'll think about giving him a call I guess.

Thanks

When I was Chrismated last year, my priest made it clear that he was my new "spiritual Father", as far as confession or any other spiritual matter.

That sounds comforting to know.

I guess I didn't (don't) think of my parish priest as a spiritual director. He has 6 parishes to take care of and is very busy.

If you're in one of his six parishes, he is your spiritual father. If you doubt this, just ask him. wink
