St. John Chrysostom Anniversary
You are invited to an evening of prayer and talks by two noted speakers celebrating the eminent life of St. John the Golden-Mouthed. This year marks the 1600th anniversary of the saint�s repose. The commemoration begins Saturday, September 29, 6:00 P.M. with Vespers at Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church on Wick Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio. The even is being sponsored by the Eastern Orthodox Clergy Association of the Mahoning Valley and the Youngstown-Warren Chapter of the Society of St. John Chrysostom. Speakers for the evening will be Rev. Hiermonk Dr. Calinic (Berger) and Michael Aquilina. Fr. Calinic is Visiting Professor of Dogmatic Theology at St. Vladimir�s. He attended Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts, graduating in 1994, and then earned his Ph.D. in Historical Theology from the Catholic University of America in 2003, having as his doctoral dissertation: Towards a Theological Gnoseology: the Synthesis of Fr Dumitru Stăniloae. Prior to ordination, he also worked for more than fifteen years as an electrical engineer. After leaving to serve the Church, he was ordained a deacon in 2005 by Metropolitan Herman and priest by Archbishop Nathaniel in 2006. He is a regular speaker at youth conferences and is the National Advisor for the American Romanian Orthodox Youth organization. Currently he serves in the Romanian Episcopate (OCA) as the pastor of Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Hermitage, PA, and is a regular contributor to the diocesan journal, Solia
Michael Aquilina is author or editor of more than a dozen books on Catholic history, doctrine, and devotion. He is vice president of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology based in Steubenville, Ohio.
Mike is co-host, with Scott Hahn, of �The Lamb�s Supper� (2001), �Hail, Holy Queen� (2002), �First Comes Love� (2003), �Lord, Have Mercy� (2004), and �Swear to God� (2005) � all airing on EWTN. He also appears regularly as a panelist on "The Weekly Roman Observer," broadcast by Catholic Familyland Network.
Mike's career in publishing spans two decades, and hundreds of his articles have appeared in many periodicals and journals in the United States and abroad.
