The Queen soundtrack to Flash Gordon was outstanding ! Then again, Queen was just an outstanding band.  Thanks for stirring up some good memories, Dr. Eric. -- John Queen was a great band and Freddy Mercury an amazing musician. For me there are basically three kinds of movies that I like: 1) Artistic works of genius, epic war movies, etc (Godfather, Patton, etc.) 2) Hong Kong action flicks (and some American action flicks) 3)movies that are so bad they are good! (Flash Gordon, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness). Joe

I tend toward sleeper comedy films that people are surprised they have never come across, and some classics.
For Roseanna (Mercedes Ruehl)
Cold Comfort Farm (early Kate Beckensale)
Adventures of Baron Munchausen (Terry Gilliam, director)
Blithe Spirit (1930s- Rex Harrison, Constance Bennett)
Cannery Row (Nick Nolte, Debra Winger)
Garden of Evil (1950s western- Gary Cooper, Susan Hayward, Richard Widmark)
Seasonal:
Christmas Carol (with Alastair Sims)

Hey, Jim, cool little fact:
Susan Hayward started my parish (Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Carrollton, GA). She is buried in our parish cemetary right next to where I've attended Mass weekly for years, and her old farm is literally across the street.
Another interesting fact is that my grandparents bought their house around 1954? (the one inside the city limits, not the farm), the house my mother and her siblings grew up in, from Susan Hayward and her husband. My grandparents still live in Hayward's house!
Kind of interesting, huh?

Oh "Downfall" was AWESOME. I am obsessed with Hitler (lol when asked what is my favorite tv show I always answer "Hitler documentries" you should see the look on there faces). In real life I have a very dark personality. I also find Mao and Stalin to be extremely interesting too.
oh yeah the animes made by Miyazaki are beyond great

Alexis, Very interesting about Susan Hayward. Surprising that "Garden of Evil" shows up on TMC or AMC once in a while, but is not available on DVD. As a kid in the 50s, she was really an impressive actress. Another of her films, "Soldier of Fortune", finally surfaced in a Clark Gable DVD box set. Many of her films, like "I'll Cry Tomorrow" and "Back Street" are more in the category of chick-flicks of their day, but she played opposite most of the best dramatic actors of her era, and with backdrops from all over the world, as well as in different historical times ("David and Bathsheba" with Gregory Peck, for example.)

I used to sing in the choir in the church where "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was filmed, but IMO, it's not that great a movie.
