Of course the 300 pound gorilla is the product of a successful ongoing global evangelization. This is one aspect of the supranational quality of the papacy. The Latin rite is continuing to grow in many parts of Africa and Asia even today. In my community we are seeing thousands coming to the faith for the first time in Bangladesh, Northeast India and East Africa. First evangelization is still taking place and the new evangelization is just getting started.
"300 pound gorilla" is not the most flattering expression, but it does point to the fact that Rome is still doing her job.

Did this have to descend into a barb at the Latin Church?
That term makes me cringe, as if the sinister Latin Catholic laity - and most of us don't know much at all about our own Particular Church - had some "double secret plan" to squash every other Particular Catholic Church. Just for letting everyone know what we're up to I'm placing you on "Double Secret Probation!"

I do have a Mini-Me. His name is Justin, I finally get to be favorite parent to one of my kids. One out of four ain't bad I guess.  I'm now pointing a highly sophisticated laser beam at St. Basil's Cathedral. I will activate the beam if my ransom has not been met.... One million dollars! [ Linked Image]
