Fellow ECF teachers,

this may help your students not fall behind when they are absent:

This week I sent the prepared lesson directly to the parent with a carefully worded cover letter....
here is the text of the cover letter use as much of it as you want to:

Dear [parent names],

Sorry we missed [student name] in class on Sunday and I hope all is ok. Your family is in my prayers.

In order for [student name] to not fall behind in his Eastern Christian Formation class work please walk him through this missed lesson. Please be sure to sign the completed homework and have him bring it to class with him this Sunday.

Basic group instructions for you and [student name] using the enclosed lesson (Lesson 2):
Opening prayer: Canticle of the Sun pray this with him at your ICON corner
Then proceed together as a class and together:
Read the ICON study and ask [student name] to observe the details of the ICON on the page
Read the Genesis creation scripture
Read the Luke account of the Prodigal Son
Read Lesson Two Life is from God

Personal Reflection work sheet:
[student name] is to complete it you may read with him if you like while he completes it. There are NO wrong answers this is a hint of the spiritual growth within him.

Scriptural Reflection work sheet:
[student name] is to complete it you may read with him if you like while he completes it. There are main points that are present and clear. Nurture the knowledge through discussing his answers.

Scriptural Reflection work sheet continued
FROM THE TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH FATHERS:
Together read the paragraphs and then allow [student name] to complete it the rest of the four questions. There are probably no real wrong answers this is basically a hint of his faith formation comprehension.

Homework Assignment Lesson Two
There are pages that have clear instruction which include:
Prayer every evening
Personal Journal

Please be sure to sign the face sheet of the homework and have him turn it in on Sunday.

Thank you, 7th grade ECF

well... this is almost word for word. Should any of my fellow ECF teachers want to post positive thoughts and suggestions - otherwise PM the negative stuff - I don't want another Pierogy episode.
