The is the fruit of nihilism. A youth that is raised to believe that only money, possessions, and the arbitrary use of personal freedom is what matters (that there is no God, that they are nothing but organized clumps of matter), will eventually not revere anyone or anything. Mindless consumption is the idol of the hour.

I wonder if a German Idealist would point and say "Ha! Didn't I warn you?"

Terry Indeed, Kant, Fichte, and Hegel would say just that! Especially Fichte. Joe

I agree with all those who call for prayers for Ms. Spears.
I must say, however, that this shows a certain lack of creativity on her (and her handlers') part. It has become very cliche now for a slumping star to do one of the following to try to trump up their value:
1) Appear in some near-pornographic film. 2) Act in a lesbian/gay role. 3) Blaspheme Christian, especially Catholic, symbols.
They think doing any of the above is "risky" and "daring", and thus will be respected as courageous. Of course, since it just leads to praise from Hollywood and the rest of the elites, it is the farthest thing from courageous. If they were really courageous, perhaps they should appear in a racy picture with Mohammad - does anyone think that will get them praise from the elites?

Mocking the RC Church and celibacy? I pray for you, Britney Spears not because I care for you but for your kids and the countless people that see you in a good light. Again, I pray for you but as I do that, get your house in order first.

Again, I pray for you but as I do that, get your house in order first. ...and before Britney, there was a period in Madonna's career where she was doing the same stuff...maybe one of these days, the entertainment business might actually get creative. The only group I remember that was not imposing unattched sex on young girls in their music were the 'Spice Girls'. Shock is getting old and is definitely NOT creative...(and speaking of trying to shock, and Madonna, wasn't that who Britney kissed on the lips at some music awards a year ago?) Anyway, Britney's songs have never been in a 'good light'...she has always tried to convey an image of sexuality, as in her song "I am not that innocent". We know that now, you have proven it Britney---it's time to move on!!! Alice

What Britney did was definitely not a good thing. I think we can all agree upon that but I really do feel for her. She obviously needs help but what does our society do? We use her pain and hurt rough period in her life as a source of amusement. I can't stand those "magazines" like Us and Star or whatever. As a budding journalist I can see why people distrust journalists. I really think we just need to leave her alone. I'm not sticking up for her but I just feel like there are more important things that we could devote our time to than the constant failings of Hollywood.

Dear Katie,
I agree with you about the media. It is really pathetic and sad how they can pick on someone and then hound them like that.

As I learned in the seminary class on confession:
More evil exists in this world as a result of stupidity than as a result of malice.
Interpret a person's actions in the best light possible, grant remission of sin, and encourage them to move forward.
Yeah, it sounds like 'liberalism', but it's the sacrament of FORGIVENESS, not the sacrament of Judgement.

I should have specified more. I offer up whatever graces I may receive from the reception of Holy Communion for her salvation. Basically I ask that whatever grace I may receive might be given to her instead.
