Father,
who brought about the Filioque dispute, East or West?
Why did the East have to get into the minute details?
Monomakh The West did, by altering the creed, and by introducing a confusion between the Spirit's hypostatic procession ( ekporeusis) of origin from the Father alone, with His eternal progression ( proienai) as energy from the Father through the Son.

Kataphatic theology applies only to the uncreated energies of God, and not to His essence, and that is why the East rejects the Scholastic analogia entis (cf. St. Gregory Palamas, Capita Physica, no. 78). Ok, now you are showing off. Cool. So let's say positive vs. negative theology. One side asserts that that human intelligence can at least approximate divine Truth, having been made in the divine image and likeness. The other side asserts that whatever the human mind posits falls so far short of the divine reality that it is virtually untrue. Still, these are two moments which exist at the heart of every theological conception or discourse. They are both always true.

This is, of course, just one perspective. But, in my opinion, it is a fair one.

Father Steele,
As Fr. Florovsky said, ". . . there is no similarity between that which comes forth from nothing and the Creator Who verily is, Who brings creatures out of nothing.
God bless, Todd

This thread is out of control and it seems that some of our posters can not follow warnings given by one of the moderators and the other administrator. I am tired of the amount of complaints this thread has generated over the last two days.
In the future, anyone not yielding to a moderator's warning or that of the administrators will have earned themselves a 3 month suspension. This thread is now closed and the topic may not be reintroduced.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai
