With Christmas just a few weeks away the airwaves are once again bombarding us with the secular Christmas songs. What are your favorites in any genre(Rock,Country, Pop, etc.)?

1. "I Believe in Father Christmas"- Emerson,Lake & Palmer
2. "Same Old Lang Syne" -Dan Fogelberg
3. "River"-(Joni Mitchell, Sarah Mclachlan)
4. "Father Christmas"-The Kinks
5. "War is Over/Happy Christmas"-John Lenon
6. "Please Come Home for Christmas"-Don Henley

I suppose the Christmas Song - "Chestnuts roasting over an open fire," etc. I think that's by Mel Torme. My favorite Christmas parody is "While shepherds washed their socks by night." wink

I know it's a silly song, but I always get a kick out of "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas."

'(I am dreaming of a)White Christmas'....

'Silver Bells, it's Christmas Time in the City'...reminds me of growing up in NYC around Christmas time, before the hoards of tourists (no offense tourists!) came and made the sidewalks feel like you are in a moving sardine can! LOL!

I would say that secular songs are more appropriately "Winter Songs" and Christmas songs are about Jesus.

I like anything by the crooners of the 30s-50s (Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Bing Crosby, et al.) and some of the newer people like Harry Connick Jr and Peter Cincotti.

The production always has a nice nostalgic feel to it. smile

Anything off of Boogie Woogie Christmas by practicing Roman Catholic rocker Brian Setzer, along with Frosty The Snowman by Gene Autry, or by Leon Redbone and Doctor John. The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. No Place Like Home For The Holidays by the Carpenters, and Carol Of The Bells by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

OOOOh!

I forgot about Brian Setzer and his Orchestra. He is good. Have you heard the Nutcracker Suite that he does?

Dr Eric

Yes, I have the CD and I love it. Alot of people put out a Christmas album and they're awlful. The playing on Boogie Woogie Christmas is so good though I've listened to it in July. "Jingle Bells Jingle Bells Jingle All The Way Oh What Fun It Is To Ride In A 57 Chevrolet"

I always get a chuckle out of "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer," and tend to get weepy with Judy Garland's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

Those of you with roots in Steel, might remember "I'm Dreaming of a Farkleberry Christmas". Ah, the good old days!
