Thank you, Alice. No, I did not realize that. I need to take some time to look around and figure things out.

Is there a trend?
This reminds me.
A couple of months back I was informed by local Orthodox clergy that Orthodox were purged from local Catholic seminaries.
For years Holy Angles seminar (for late vocation) has had an Orthodox priest teach Patristics. And two years ago this Orthodox priest was one of the main speakers in Hartford (the occasion was graduation from several local Catholic seminaries). At his ordination the people there were nearly 40% RC with nuns, monks, and if I remember correctly two RC bishops.
But last year the Orthodox priest was informed that there will be no more Orthodox teaching in Catholic seminaries. He was purged because he is Orthodox.
Regarding being banned from the CatholicAnswers forum. Were they banned because they were out of control .. or banned because they are Orthodox? Makes a difference.
Fr. J ... I do not think anyone at this forum hides their affiliation. You can click on the posters name and see mostly anyones affiliation (View Profile). Many of us have been here a long time and know each other so it is needless to put our affiliation into the post itself. On the occasions that I do .. it is because I am RC and disagreeing with my RC on some item. I have put in many tears here defending or explaining RC theology (from my perspective) and so many people here (the ones who might read my posts) know that I breath with both lungs. The point being ... we generaly do not need to announce our affiliation in our posts.
There is no affiliation criteria here at the byzcath board to be a moderator. The moderator might be Catholic, Byzantine, or Orthodox, or maybe something else.
I am glad to see you stay Fr. J.
-ray I was wondering, do any Orthodox seminaries have Catholic teachers? I would think that having an EO teacher at Catholic seminaries before VII would have been unthinkable. Happy Thanksgiving! Slavau Isusu Christu!

I was among the members of Byzcath who gravitated to the CA Forums at their inception. There are many here who are still members of the CA forums like me.
I participated in the poll that determined the propriety of creating a separate subforum on "Eastern Christianity," thus giving voice to the Eastern Catholic members (whose posts were inevitably interpersed in Latin discussions) and granting the wish of Orthodox members to be segregated from the "Non-Catholic" subforum, which included all non-Catholics and non-Christians.
Some Orthodox members have been banned for polemics and outright uncharitable posts. But not ALL.
With the change from "Eastern Christianity" to "Eastern Catholicism," the sub-forum was reverted back to the original intent of the CA administration: a place where Eastern Catholics can explain their patrimony to Latin Catholic and to non-Catholic posters without the hassles coming from Eastern Orthodox posters, who were supposed to augment the views of Eastern Catholics. The "Eastern Chrisitanity" subforum simply became the dominion of Orthodox posters, drowning out the Latin and Eastern Catholic posters. It became a vehicle for Orthodox proselytization, propaganda, insults, and belligerence.
The proprietary owner(s) of Catholic Answers, as hosts, had to step in and showed the Orthodox posters, as guests, what was appropriate under the circumstances. Orthodox members were, therefore, reverted back to the old "Non-Catholic" subforum where they belonged in the first place. They are allowed to post in the "Eastern Catholic" subforum only where they augment the explanation of issues pertaining to Eastern Catholics, as "equal" heirs to the patrimony of Eastern Christianity.
Orthodox members (except those individually banned by the forum adminstrators) are still free to post, but only on the "Non-Catholic" sub-forum like all other non-Catholic and non-Christian members.
Personally, I believe the CA Eastern Catholic subforum has regained a modicum of peace!

This thread seems to be losing contact with reality. What does what may or may not have happened on a Catholic Answers forum got to do with what may or may not have happened at one RC seminary? The former is run by laymen, a lot of whom are converts from Protestantism. The seminary is run by some eccesiastical authority that may well never have heard of Catholic Answers.
Other posts above suggest that the forum had become too polemical, which would be a good reason for shutting it down. Furthermore, CA's primary focus is on defending Catholic belief against and explaining it to Protestants and sectarians, not the Orthodox. Why Orthodox posters would want to get involved in that environment I do not understand.
The use of the loaded word "purged" I find highly objectionable. The allegation seems to be that ONE Orthodox priest was not retained as a teacher by ONE RC seminary. In fact, that this happened at all is not substantiated. "I was told".In other words, "I have heard a rumor that..". And if this priest really was not rehired by that seminary, are any of us ever going to know the reason? No we are not, because it's none of our business.

Amado Thanks, Amado. My hunch is that many of the Orthodox posters there (I was a periodic lurker) were Protestants at one point who had considered Catholicism's claims and chose Orthodoxy. As a result, they now bring their vehement anti-Catholicism with them into that forum. This is certainly not all, but it does explain somewhat why they bothered to post there. That said, there are some very good and well meaning Orthodox posters. I hope they continue to add perspective and, when appropriate, challenge. God bless, Gordo

Thank you, Orest. I am happy to see that you are Orthodox. I utterly detest all this sniping and ill-will among Catholic and Orthodox posters. Let us love one another, that with one mind we may profess the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We are increasingly surrounded and assaulted by those who do not. Radically so! We who believe the creed of Nicea had better stand side by side, for the world, the flesh and devil rage against us. Us? Rage against Christ! (May sound a bit melodramatic, but, alas, true).
Yet, Christ is risen. He will prevail.

Having lurked at other forums and knowing what goes on elsewhere, this is the only forum I have ever posted on regularly. Regularly meaning more than once.
Without naming names I would like to applaud the administrator, moderators, and also the long time regular posters here, and also the new ones who keep this forum going and keep it running as respectfully and as charitably as they do.
Not always an easy task!
Kudos to The Byzantine Forum! Especially to those at the controls!
Many Years!

This got me thinking, and yes, I have to admit that this forum is by far the most polite and tightly knit group I have ever been associated with. When we fight, boy, do we fight! But no matter how terse it becomes, when push comes to shove, we all are there for each other. So a round of Mnogaya Leta/Many years to our Administrators John and Fr Anthony and to all our moderators!

The message boards were quite heated over there, but I can't help but wonder if there were not too many converts to Orthodoxy who converted because of the Orthodox posters on the CA Forum and that's why it was shut down.

Frankly, I would not be surprised. It is a shame, really.

You know, I have not looked at CA even once. Evidently, I haven't missed much, from reading your descriptions of it.
