Seems hard to believe doesn't it? http://www.interfax-religion.ru/print.php?act=news&id=21547Panikhida for Victims of the Famine in Ukraine to be Served in MoscowMoscow. 21 November. INTERFAX. A panikhida for the victims of famine in Ukraine will be served on November 24th in Moscows Theophany Cathedral. It will be attended by representatives of Ukrainian social organizations, embassy diplomats, Moscows Ukrainians, ordinary Russian residents all those who remember the victims of the terrible famine of that time, Ukraines Ambassador to Russia, Oleg Demin, told Interfax on Wednesday. In addition, on Saturday, there will be a candle-lighting ceremony, which, he said, has been taking place in many countries and has already become a tradition. Participating in it is an expression of sorrow and sympathy to those who care about the tragedy which occurred 75 years ago, noted the Ambassador. At twilight, candles in memory of the famines victims, will be placed in the windows of the Embassy, the Ukrainian Cultural Center, apartments of diplomatics, and ordinary Muscovites, added O. Demin.

Can a lepard change his spots? I'll believe it when I see the pictures from the service. The MP has always suppported the Russian government, so this is out of character.
If it is true, it would be interesting to see if the ROCOR picks it up as a tradtion.
What next? Joint commemoration of the Russians and Ukrainian Orthodox for the vicitms of the Holodomor????????
Is the age of miracles still with us? Orest

Well, I see that my country is supporting the UNESCO Motion of the Holodomor. Has the US already given its support as well? Canada Supports UNESCO Motion on Holodomor Editors Note: On October 31, during Question Period in the House of Commons, Parliament of Canada, the Hon. Jason Kenney (Secretary of State for Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity) announced that on October 23rd (2007), Canada co-sponsored a motion by Ukraine and adopted by UNESCO that honours victims of the Holodomor Great Famine in Ukraine, 1932-1933. The following is the dialogue in the House between MP James Bezan and Secretary of State Kenney. Prior to the dialogue honouring victims of the Holodomor Great Famine, the special relationship between Canada and Ukraine was emphasised by MP Peter Goldring in recognition of 20 young Ukrainian interns in Canada participating in the Canada Ukraine Parliamentary Program. Mr. Peter Goldring (Edmonton East, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I wish to recognize 20 youthful delegates from Ukraine who have visited with us for the past three weeks. They are here in members offices to gain valuable perspectives of Canadas most important democratic institution: the Parliament of Canada. These young people, representing the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Program, embody the highest ideals of achievement and community service. They are the future leaders of Ukraine. Young people like Yaroslav Udovenko from my office. Canada and Ukraine are inextricably linked forever by prior migration. Fully one in thirty Canadians are from Ukrainian descent, as are my wife, daughters and granddaughter. Ukraine holds a special place in the hearts of Canadians. Canada was the first country in the western world to accord diplomatic recognition in 1990 to an independent Ukraine. As young emissaries, we wish them well * * * Mr. James Bezan (Selkirk-Interlake, CPC): Mr. Speaker, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor, the Great Famine in Ukraine. Millions of Ukrainians died during Holodomor in 1932 and 1933. Many Ukrainian Canadians survived the famine, while others had family and friends starve to death back in Ukraine. Can the Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity) share with the House the initiative Canada has taken to commemorate the millions of lives lost in this tragedy? * * * Hon. Jason Kenney (Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), CPC): Mr. Speaker, the members interest in this issue is evidenced by his bill on the Holodomor. Canada is connected to this dark chapter in history by more than a million Canadians of Ukrainian descent, many of whom lost family during the Holodomor. On October 23, Canada co-sponsored a motion by Ukraine, which has been adopted by UNESCO, that honours the memory of millions who perished in the Famine and acknowledges it was caused by the brutal communist dictatorship of Joseph Stalin. Let me add that the government welcomes plans by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress to launch a year of commemorative events next month [in November] surrounding the great historic tragedy of the Holodomor. http://www.infoukes.com/newpathway/44-2007_Page-3-1.html

Why would this surprise you? We are all victims of the Godless Ones. Butino, Golodomir, Katyn Forest, the Ipatiev House, all examples of the work of Satan's hordes. Were you not aware that all the victims of Golodomir and all the purges of Stalin were included in the roster of the New Martyrs of the Communist Yoke?

All, The global community is recognizing the act of 1932 - 1933 genocide against the Ukrainian people. It has taken 75 years but suddenly there is a consensus that this was in fact an act of genocide which Soviet Russia first denied and severely punished anyone who spoke about it. Many decades later when they could not longer hide it they claimed that the crops were bad that year and 'everyone suffered'. Not true. Today, there are those who make the same claim - that everyone suffered - not true. In fact Ukraines borders were sealed in 1932 and people could not get in or out (unless they were being deported to Siberia) and even within Ukraine, regions which were largely inhabited by Russians famine of the genocidal type did not happen. The Russian villages (minority) were supplied with grain whereas the Ukrainian ones (majority) were not. Today, there are those who further want to promote an 'inclusive famine' when in fact it was one which specifically targeted ethnic Ukrainians. This map will show the areas in which populations were massively affected. If you notice the area to the South of Ukraine known as the Kuban, you see that this area too was severely affected - simply because the people who lived there were Ukrainian speaking people who had a unique and distinct culture. Those people to the East of Ukraine were largely Ukrainian and / or German speaking (Volga Region) and again were targeted for their unique ethnicity. Stalin had said in the late 1920's that he wanted to deported all of the Ukrainians to Siberia but when told that would not be practical due to the fact that there were millions of them - decided a more practical solution would be to starve them to death. No such targeted act of genocide was inflicted on ethnic Russians and in fact, in the spring of 1933 when the Ukrainian villages were completely depopulated, ethnic Russians were settled in their place. To this day the ethnic composition of Eastern Ukraine, the Kuban, and the Volga River region have been changed and the ability to re-establish a Ukrainian state delayed by decades. Many scholars today believ that these combined regions had Ukrainian speaking populations that were numerically similar to that of the Russians. Clearly the picture has changed. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...e_map.jpg/500px-Holodomor_Famine_map.jpgThe Panikhida in Moscow is being organized by ethnic Ukrainians for all those people, including Russians who would like pray for the estimated 7,000,000 to 10,000,000 Ukrainians who perished 75 years ago. It is estimated that 25,000 died per day. Unfortunately 99% of those who died were buried without church rites and the Christian world is attempting to remember them in their prayers. Governments around the world, have recognized the Holodomor (death by hunger) as an act of genocide. There are those who continue along Soviet lines and claim that everyone suffered why single out this particular act ? The Russian Orthodox Church not only refuses to commemorate the dead, the Muscovite Patriarch orders his Ukrainian Metropolitan to also ignore any commemoration of the Holodomor. A scholarly Holodomor exhibit was scheduled to open in Moscow last week. Vandals destroyed the exhibit overnight in a exhibition hall which had tight security. Clearly government forces of President Putin were involved. Also a complete library of Ukrainian books (in Moscow) was carted away and destroyed as 'punishment' for having set up the exhibit in Moscow (BTW, this type of thing was typical of both Czars and Russian Commissars). Ukrainian president Yuschenko asked president Putin of Russia this week to recognize the genocide which occurred 75 years ago. Putin of KGB-Russia refused to respond, and ditto for the Muskovite Patriarch. Russia has a long history dating back 300 years of suppressing Ukrainian statehood / independance. How will the Russian Orthodox Church respond ? There will Orthodox services in Moscow to which they have been invited. I.F.

All this hate is going to give you an ulcer, my friend. My advice is to go out and hug a Russian. You might be surprised to find that they are God's children as well!

No, Slavipodvizhnik, that will not do. Jean Francois' allegations are either true, all or some, or they are not. Either refute him factually or admit their truth, if they be true.

Just re-reading it now, it states that the panakhyda will take place in the Theophany Cathedral in Moscow. I had assumed that the Patriarch of Moscow would be celebrating, which is not stated in the article. It is a bit ambiguous, isn't it? Will he be there or not? Is Metr. Vladimir Sabodan (MP)in Kyiv celebrating a panakhyda?

Alexandr \ I think it's great when someone takes time out of their day to pray for anyone. I concur, why all the sour-ness? We should be glad the memory isn't forgotten and people are going to gather to offer a Panachida for the dead.

Ok, let's leave the politics out of the Church News section. In case you did not notice it is prohibited in this section and has been for a couple years now.

Dear Friends,
It is time for us to forget the past and look to the future.
We should also remember the number of Russians who were supportive of the UGCC during its time of being in the underground.
Let us also remember the love for the RUssian people that Met. Andrew Sheptytsky and Pat. Josef the Hieroconfessor always bore.
Finally, it was the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1905 that affirmed publicly that the Ukrainian language is an independent language and is not a Russian dialect. The statement also attacked anyone that said otherwise (from Great Russian chauvinist sentiments). No Ukrainian scholar at the time went on record as saying that.
As for political machinations etc., I think Ukrainians over there are smart enough to realize that for themselves. Certainly, there is great fraternity over there between the two peoples. As there should be.
