Dear Jakub,
Yes, they don't have oblates but no matter.
They are as Eastern as they come AND they follow the Rule of St Benedict.
The best of both worlds, wouldn't you say?
You may get excited, to be sure!

Dear OP,
That's quite a tail!
St Benedict was renowned for his love of animals and throughout the centuries his emblem decorated barns and homes and he was invoked as a protector of the animals.
The Cross of St Benedict is so honoured in the West that it can be used INSTEAD of the relic of the true Cross for the special blessing.
Evil spirits cannot take hold of a place that has the Cross of St Benedict on its wall. St Benedict, as we know, was given a cup of poison and when he blessed it, the cup burst on its own. When given a loaf of poisoned bread (by a priest, no less!) he made the Sign of the Cross over it and then had his pet raven take it in its bill (ever so gingerly) and remove it.
On the Medal, on either side of him is the cup and the raven and over both is: "Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti."

Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Nunquam draco sit mihi dux!
Vade retro Satana! Nunquam suade mihi vana! Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas!

May the Holy Cross be my Light! May the dragon never be my guide.
Begone Satan, do not tempt me with your vanities What you offer is evil: Drink the poison yourself!
Dr. Eric,
This reminds me of the fellow in his final death throes being asked by a preacher if he accepted Christ and rejected the devil.
To this he replied: "As for your first request, I most certainly do! As for your second - I'm in no position to antagonize anyone!"

A priest friend of mine knowing I used to live on the Michigan/Ohio state line asked if I had ever thought of going to visit them, being that they are "right there in Michigan"...
I said I would love to, but it is only an 11 hour drive from the state line... New York City was closer by two hours!
Some people are "out there"... these venerable souls are "UP there" in the Upper Peninsula of MI - "Yoopers" A very different and hearty breed to be sure.
The mere fact that they did not get eaten by bears or turned into "monksicles" surely is a sign of Providential blessing!

Dear Dr Eric,
You might think about becoming a Benedictine Oblate - your choice as to which monastery you would want to be associated with!
PAX on your house,
Alex

What does that entail. I get these packages from the new monastery in Oklahoma I have their Chant CD in my car as it used to calm me down before going to work. Hearing the holy prayers seemed to be a protection against the evil going on there. For some reason I feel drawn to Sts. Benedict and Bernard. ___________________________________________________________________ Is that a PAX on my house?
