Wesley actually managed to have a couple of priests and deacons ordained by a Greek Metropolitan visiting England. He tried to have a bishop consecrated, but the Greek Metropolitan wasn't about to go that far.

There are probably Methodists in Canada, though I don't remember runnng across them. But are the Methodists Arminians?

Then again, it's likely that a lot of Methodists joined the United Church of Canada. To the extent that the United Church of Canada has any soteriology, it's probably Arminian.

Anyway, I'm delighted that you also caught the reference!

Fr. Serge

Yes, when the United Church of Canada was formed in 1925: 100% of the Methodists joined, 100% of the Congregationalists and the majority of the Presbyterians.

That is why Arminian theology and the Social Gospel predominated versus the Calvinism of the Presbyterians.
Actually I found the last comment made about by the founder of Methodism with the Greek Orthodox very interesting.
I know there have been scholarly works written about the comparison of theosis and the Methodist doctrine of santification. However, I can't cite any offhand.

Will you people please stay on topic. This has nothing to do with Methodism.

Since Mr. Gibson has had some troubles in the recent past. Will this give the Armenians a voice or will this be swept by the wayside as another project that the critics will immediately pan. I think they did so with The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto.

This thread is making my head spin...

Let's get this straight:

* ARM E NIANS are an ethnic group of people.

* ARM I NIANS are:

Arminianism
noun Theology. the doctrinal teachings of Jacobus Arminius or his followers, esp. the doctrine that Christ died for all people and not only for the elect.

These reminds me of Cretans and Cretins...some Cretans can also be cretins I suppose... but well-- let's stick to differentiating between the subject at hand for now...LOL!

Vocabulary and spelling lesson is over!

The critics do what the critics will... but both ventures were commercial successes...

Maybe such a film would bring some of the attention this sad episode in history deserves.

:), I was wondering what the connection was between Methodist & Armenians...

Many years ago when I met a contractor on the job site, a worker asked for a cigarette and one member of my crew passed him the pack, the guy went ballistic, yelling ripping up the pack and stomping it into the dirt, a pack of Camels...it took a while to discuss it and get the job done...

Dear James,

Please forgive me, but I don't get the moral of your story?

Thanks,

It is so good to see you here again. I'm also amazed at your breadth and depth of knowledge. What kind of political involvement do you have. I have a hard time imagining that I could work on a piece of legislation for the US.

I found several copies of Ararat in my library system but unfortunately they're all on DVD, and I'm still behind the times with just a video cassette player. I'll probably check a couple video stores this week, as I definitely want to see this movie. If I can't find it, perhaps I'll begin working on my 20 hour documentary, "Turkey: A Century Of Genocide".

I think the point was this: Camels are Turkish cigarettes. I'm assuming the guy must have been Armenian. I knew Greeks in college who never touched anything Turkish.
