Hmmm would be great if they had that history in Ukrainian instead of Russian...

Well, if you go to the monastery in person you have the choice of pamplets and booklets in Ukrainian for sale. Just like this Russian version on the web, the period under the Basilians was not ignored.
The literature is available for sale n both languages, because this monastery is so important in the Slavic Orthodox world, that pilgrimges come from all over Russia, some from Slovakia, Serbia and Bulgaria as well. Thus, the pilgrims are not limited to Ukrainian readers.
Actually, I found when I was travelling and visiting monasteries in Bulgaria, the information was available in Bulgarian and in Russian for visitors.

I wonder how the photographer ever got permission to take a picture. It is only lowered on chains on certain feast days for the faithful to venerate.

That is not the original miraculous icon, but a copy.

Below is how the original miraculous icon at the Pochayiv monastery looks like. The faces of Christ and the Theotokos are darker in appearence. The crowns are more ornate as well as the "starburst" surrounding the icon.

No I am actually grateful that you have corrected me. In my excitement I completely missed that line at the beginning of the commentary:(This is copy of the Pochaev Icon in our church in Brno). I shall have to look up Brno on the map? Probably in Serbia, since the commentary is also in Serbian. But how wondeful that the story and veneration of the Pochaivska Theotokos has spread there.
I have only seen the Miraculous Icon from a distance when I visited Pochaiv because it is on chains above the Royal Doors.
Also the copies I have seen in churches in Canada all seem to have a different Riza.
I thought the stones looked lighter and different in the Flicker picture that what I have seen in other pictures.

In actual fact, there are more than 300 copies of the Pochaiv Icon that have been each individually declared miraculous and are venerated as such around the world!

Orest,Brno is the capital of Moravia,the Eastern Region of the Czech Republic.At least,that's the only Brno I've heard of.My spirtual Father,Archimandrite Pachomy(Bulgarian Patriarchate) just returned from a pilgrimige to Russia and the Czech Republic.I know that he served at a Cathedral in Olomouc,Czech Republic.There once was a considerable Czech colony in Wolyn, many of whom were Orthodox.After WW II,when Wolyn was part of Soviet-occupied Ukraine,many Czechs from there moved to Czecho-slovakia.Perhaps this explains the Icon being in a church in Brno.

I saw a GORGEOUS one at the OCA church in New Salem,PA during the Otpust.

Why would you want to buy an Icon of the Theotokos of Pochaiv with a riza? It is the icon itself which is important not the cover.
Even at the Ukrainian Orthodox Monastery of Pochaiv they do not sell copies of this icon with a riza.
There are many outlets in North America that sell copies of the Theotokos of Pochaiv.

OK, that makes sense. Thanks. I just spoke to my wife's grandfather about this because he is originally from near the Pochaiv monastery in Volynia, Ukraine.

Here is what he said and suggested for you. The icon of the Theotokos of Pochaiv in the Pochaiv monastery itself is covered with an elaborate riza, hanging over the Royal Doors of the iconostasis
The riza is made in the shape of a star pattern with rays many jewels.

In our parish we have a small copy of the icon and riza also hanging over the Royal Doors. But the riza we have only has stones (not jewels) in the eight corners of the star. Also the original icon and riza in Pochaiv is quite large so consider a smaller version as in our parish.

Here is what my in-law suggested:

and see if they can get a copy of the icon for you and also have the riza made for you out of metal with engravings of all the rays but without the real jewels or with a few rhinestones or other stones in the corners as in the riza at our church. They would have it made for you in either Ukraine or Russia at a cheaper rate than here. You can ask them for an estimate. Also ask for a discount since you are donating it to a church.

There are a number of Ukrainian Orthodox parishes in Canada that have the Theotokos of Pochaiv icon and riza so my in-law said it must be being produced somewhere and thus available for you to buy. Also he said there are many churches in Ukraine with copies too.
