If we're going to talk about food, why Cream-of-Wheat?
Why not something yummy, like sauerkraut-mushroom soup?! That'll warm you up on a cold day!

Had any sauerkraut mishaps? A story could be entertaining.
I've been avoiding branded sauerkraut because of those I've tasted, the flavor balance rarely satisfies me. The best sauerkraut I've had was at Rudi Lechner's, a wonderful restaurant if anybody must stop in Houston.
I have similar trouble with canned soups.

If by "mishap" you mean childhood that provided opportunities to partake of the vile weed, then yes. But no, no actual mishaps.

My neighbor used to run a deli and she imported a brand of sauerkraut from Germany--she was born there--that was called "Mildessa" or something like that. It did not have the characteristic sharp taste of so many others I've eaten.

I've used Vlasic Sauerkraut in a jar the past several years for my Christmas Eve soup . . . nice and sour!

It's that sharp taste, maybe a little more acidic or "metalic" to my tongue, that scares me of random picking. I'll look into that. Maybe there's a German grocery store in town.

My mom always buys the one in the bag in the frozen foods aisle. No idea of whether it's always the same brand.
While she doesn't use it, she has the crock in which her grandmother made sauerkraut.

Besides that, there's just something about farmer's cheese pierogies that makes me happy. Sauteed with onions in good olive oil. =)

Terry Sauteed with onions and good olive oil . . . throw in a little butter, too, and you can't go wrong. My wife and I have made homemade pierogies a few times; but due to military moves, rarely find a local source. In a pinch, Mrs. T's will do.
