I am asking both about personal prayers and liturgical ones.

Dear Friends, I pray the Jesus Prayer throughout, but immediately following Holy Communion I say the Magnificat of the Mother of God that she sang when she bore Christ in her womb. St Theophane the Recluse said that just as mothers nourish their children with their milk, so too does our Heavenly Mother, the Most Holy Virgin Mary, nourish us in the Divine Mysteries of the Most Pure Body and Blood of OLGS Jesus Christ - since He took His Body and Blood from her. The first time I said this prayer after Communion . . .well, don't take my word for it . . . try it yourselves! God bless you! Alex

How and what I pray upon receiving Holy Communion is a highly intimate matter between God and myself.

Praying out loud or quietly to ourselves?
I often hear "Amen", sometimes I hear "go ahead" or "okay".

Bless, FAther Archimandrite! So too felt the Holy Elders of Orthodoxy. But eventually they came to share some of their insights for the edification of the faithful. A great example to follow, wouldn't one say? Alex

I will never forget the time my son (Dangerous Dan here - now 17) was three or four. We were attending a weekday Mass at the local RC parish. After I received communion, I told him, "Daniel, I just received Jesus. He is inside me now - in my tummy!"
Daniel, without a pause, grabbed my jaws and opened my mouth and yelled into it:
"I love you, Jesus!"
So that is what I say now.
Out of the mouths of babes comes wisdom!

a couple of years ago, I purchased a pocket type prayer book of the Antiochian Orthodox that have great prayers before and after receiving the Mysteries, they are quite similar to Russian prayers. I use them at Mass, and I don't think that a Latin Priest would have problems if a Latin used them as well.at the same time, I am sure that there are Latin prayers one could use, if so inclined. however, I do like the idea of the Jesus Prayer. if I can remember the next time I am at Mass (or one of these days at Liturgy),I'll remember the Jesus Prayer as I walk up the aisle. Much Love, Jonn

If I were a Holy Elder, I might agree. Since I am not . . .

Bless, Father Archimandrite,
Two laymen were on retreat at a monastery where there was a monk renowned for his holiness, miracles and spiritual insights.
One of them said to the other, "I'm going to ask that monk if he is a saint!"
To which the other replied, "If he says 'Yes,' well, then he's not . . ."

I love that book! The before and after prayers are great! It also is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse. It has nice daily prayers as well.
