As for Catholic Churches of the Byzantine rite, Canada has historically had the Ukrainian eparchies to include Galicians and any who might be the Carpathian mountain area. In more recent years there has been a "Slovak" eparchy in Toronto (6 parishes the last I heard). To be sure, a few Slovaks have become Byzantine rite, but most of them are really Rusyns who have become assimilated to Slovak language and culture.

thank you for the help i've gotten so far. i've heard of this church but i wasnt totally sure if it has anything to do with carpatho-rusyns. i usually go either to ukrainian catholic church or polish catholic church but since i am a rusyn i always wanted to be closer to my people. we pray to the same God but i've always had problem with understanding church slavonic and i do still have problems with understanding ukrainian so i dont see a reason of going to church and being only half active and for the rest of the time trying to figure out what the prist has said.

The Slovak Catholic Cathedral can be seen going North on Hwy 404 just past Major Mackenzie. It's grandeur is stunning. Apparently it houses a trio of the world's largest bells. It's too bad it does not have a website. If I can manage to take a picture I'll send it into the Admin to post... it's definately worth seeing.
Developers are building Georgian styles homes around the cathedral and promoting it as Canada's most exquisite community. My wife and I looked there for a new home... 2000 sqft semi detached are getting gobbled up for $515,000 CAD.

Dear Drotiar, I wouldn't know too much about the situation in Toronto, but there are Rusin or Rusnak organisations in Canada. Perhaps you could get information from them. I just started receiving the publication "Rusnaci u svece" from Kitchener, Ontario. It is written in the Rusyn language as spoken by those who migrated from the Carpathian region to Voivodina in Serbia, back when both areas were part of the Hungarian kingdom. This language is really more East Slovak than anything else, but written in the Cyrillic, I don't know if you can read that or if you speak Rusyn, but if you're interested here is the e-mail amber@golden.net, the editor is Gavra Koljesar.Fr.
